SDCC 2017 Exclusive Star Wars The Black Series Grand Admiral Thrawn

Here's a look at the SDCC 2017 Exclusive Star Wars the Black Series Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I did not plan to do a post for the exclusive Thrawn originally as I wanted to keep it in box. It makes for a great display piece as you can see above. I managed to get a second piece at a great price and so here we are. A good thing too as the figure and accessories are really cool.

This version of Thrawn is from Star Wars Rebels. And as with previous The Black Series Rebels characters Thrawn was done in a more realistic style and I think Hasbro did a great job with that. He's got a great head sculpt. He looks very composed. His red eyes were well painted. Staring into them gives me the chills. His uniform is very similar to Tarkin's. Actually I should say it the other round since Thrawn was released before Tarkin. The gold epaulettes were sculpted, as were the silver pins at his collar. Then there's the rank insignia and the code cylinders. There's wrinkles and creases on the uniform and it is textured. He wears a holster on his belt. I like the look of the gun metal buckle.

Thrawn comes with several accessories, most of which are items from his collection of artefacts. From back to front there's a ritual stone and the Syndulla Family Kalikori both of which are attached to a pedestal, a statue of two green Ysalamir, a Jedi Temple Guard's helmet, the Holy Grail, a lightsaber and Commander Gree's helmet.

A better look at the ritual stone and the Kalikori. They both have nice sculpted and paint detail on them. They can be removed from the pedestal and you can change up the display if you like. These two items though have a little peg at the bottom and are unable to stand on their own so its best left where they are.

The Holy Grail is originally from Indiana Jones and is an easter egg in one of the Rebels episodes. I never knew that and I'll have to go and check it out for myself.

Both the Jedi Temple Guard's and Commander Gree's helmet may be worn. The Jedi Temple Guard's helmet is quite a tight fit while Commander Gree's helmet is loose. The paint apps on the Jedi Temple Guard's helmet is good.

I didn't know this last year, but it seems the lightsaber belongs to Ezra. The lightsaber has nice sculpted detail on it. Good paint apps too. Is the top supposed to be slanted? Or is my accessory just warped. A lightsaber blade may be inserted so that it may be used. The fit is a little loose though. I apologise for using a red blade instead of green. It was the most convenient one I had available.

Thrawn also comes with a blaster pistol which may be holstered. There's great detail on the pistol and I like the gun metal colour.

Articulation. Thrawn has got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. The "skirt" section of his uniform is quite flexible and he can raise his legs up quite well.

Comparison shots.

Great figure! I love the accessories. Thanks for viewing!
