Disney Infinity 3.0 Preview

Mark the date! The first Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack will be available in Singapore from 1 September 2015 for all compatible platforms and will retail at SGD99.90. The latest edition of the best selling game sees the Star Wars universe added to the already massive roster of Disney and Marvel characters. With new Play Sets and new Toy Box Expansion games there's even more content which the whole family can enjoy. A media preview was held yesterday at the Sandcrawler Singapore and I got to check it out!

Jason Moffitt, a Producer of Disney Infinity specially flew in from the US to share with us what we can expect from Disney Infinity 3.0.

Jason Moffitt

This slide alone sums up the most awesome aspect of the game. That is to play and experience all of these characters together!

One of the objectives of Disney Infinity 3.0 is to give a complete Star Wars Experience. We can play in missions from during the time of the Clone Wars all the way to The Force Awakens. There will be many playable characters from throughout the different timelines, including several of the main cast of Star Wars Rebels. Many iconic environments are in the game. There's Tatooine, Hoth and Endor to name a few. Be it riding on speeder bikes, participating in aerial battles or lightsaber combat, there's something you're bound to like. With regards to lightsaber combat, Jason mentioned that the characters can do combos and will each have a finishing move. And this is not just limited to Star Wars characters, but to all other characters in Disney Infinity 3.0 as well.

A good thing about the game is we can unlock the various Star Wars characters simply by finding their coins. This is so much easier than in previous editions. Another good thing is that we can use any Star Wars character with any of the Star Wars Play Sets. That is we can take Han Solo for example and have him fight during the Clone Wars. How cool is that!

The first Starter Pack to be released will include The Twilight of the Republic Play Set (Twilight) and the Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano figures. The story takes place during the time of the Clone Wars. Jason describes this as the most combat based Play Set than any of the other Play Sets they had done before. Players will go up against the likes of Darth Maul and General Grievous.

The next Play Set after Twilight is Rise Against the Empire (Empire) which takes place during the the Original Trilogy. Luke and Leia are the figures that come with it and the Play Set piece is the Death Star. Check out the trailer for it:

There will be a Play Station exclusive bundle pack that will include the first two Star Wars Play Sets and a Boba Fett figure! Boba Fett will not be released until late next year and through this bundle you can get the Empire Play Set around a month earlier than it's individual release!

Jason spoke a bit of the last Star Wars Play Set announced so far and that is The Force Awaken Play Set. He couldn't say much. The first two figures, Finn and Rey were revealed just a day before at D23 held in the US.

There are new features in the Toy Box. One of which is the Toy Box Hub which makes it easier to create your own world. There are six gameplay options which are platforming, combat, racing, INteriors, community and farming. In farming you can grow crops, even funny ones like Donald Duck juice boxes and Mickey Mouse ice-cream bars. Sidekicks may be unlocked in the game and you can feed them and raise their abilities to help you in game.

In community there's the El Capitan theatre where you watch official Disney Infinity videos and Flynn's Arcade where you can search for and play a world of someone else's creation. You can also search for a player online to play with or against.

The Toy Box expansion games features two new games. One of which is the Toy Box Speedway and the other the Toy Box Takeover.  A good thing is you can play with any character you already own, be it from 1.0 or 2.0. The Toy Box Speedway is basically a racing game where you can race across nine themed tracks. If you have old vehicle Power Discs you can use them here too!

In the Takeover game Syndrome has taken over the Toy Box and he has several bad guys like Davy Jones and Loki helping him. There are six action-packed levels to get through. Jason mentioned that the villains will have different moves.

New figures! They are Olaf, Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Sam and Quorra. You can see photos of the actual figures later.

Some more upcoming figures! They will include Spot from the Good Dinosaur and Judy and Nick from Zootopia.

For Power Discs, they will no longer come in blind packs. Instead they will be available in labelled franchise-specific packs of four. Jason mentioned that they will be a little more expensive than the blind packs.

We also got to watch the trailer for the Inside Out Play Set and hear about the upcoming Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set. Jason said that he had seen some of Battlegrounds and he thinks it will be a very popular Play Set. The Marvel characters from 2.0 can be be used with it as well.

A question was asked during the Q&A about Lucasfilm properties, specifically Indiana Jones. Jason replied that he would like see Indiana Jones and every Disney, Lucas and Marvel characters in the game. With Indiana Jones it makes sense. There are currently no plans to do it but he hopes to. He hopes to do maybe 100 editions of the game until they run out of characters.

We got to see a number of the new and upcoming figures. I'm sure these characters need no introduction. Click on images to enlarge.

I tried playing Anakin and I loved it! Moving around as a Jedi wielding a lightsaber, going around slashing droids and stuff has never been easier. It's just simple fun! He can also pick up objects and throw them.

Here's Luke demonstrating that particular action.

I watched others play the game. I think Princess Leia is going to be very popular. We know she's the action sort but seeing her blasting and fighting is just so cool!

I also saw the Hulkbuster in action. He can fly. Aside from simply smashing stuff up, he seems to have a missile attack.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is going to be tons of fun! I haven't played since 1.0 but I think I just might pick this up again. I mean it's Disney, Marvel and Star Wars in one game! It doesn't get much better that!
