Marvel Legends Marvel Studios The First Ten Years - Pepper Potts / Iron Man Mark XXII / The Mandarin

A trio based on Iron Man 3. Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Pepper Potts, Iron Man Mark XXII and The Mandarin.

This here is set number 4 of the Marvel Studios The First Ten Years series.

Pepper is a character which I've been wanting a figure of. I would have very much preferred her in a proper attire but I'll take what I can get. Pepper turned out okay. I think she has a good likeness. The head sits a little high on the neck. It may be due to an issue with my figure. No matter how I try to adjust the head she ends up looking up and to her left. A hinge or socket problem I don't know... I apologise for some of the pics. I should have stuck it down with some sticky tack or something. Her hair looks nice. There's some light brown shading in it. The torso is new. Her sports bra and the straps were sculpted. The paint didn't quite hit the mark and there's visible flesh tone in spots. Lower down her pants is unbuckled. It has a zip in the front and pockets at the back. The legs reuses those from the Silk body with new feet. The bit of flesh tone at the ankles were painted.

A better look at the head. Her right eye is closer to her nose than her left. I initially thought it was a sculpt issue. Then I looked up some images online and she actually does appear like that in some of the photos. Her eyes are quite wide and she has a bit of a surprised expression. She looks better with her head tilted down.

Accessories. She comes with an alternate armoured right arm. You'll recall in the final battle she stuffed her hand up one of the Iron Man suits before blasting Aldrich Killian with the repulsor. The arm has good detail. I especially like the bit of metal and circuitry at the top.

The arm has articulation. It's got a ball hinge shoulder, bicep swivel and double jointed elbows. It could use some wrist articulation. It would help with the repulsor effect which she also comes with.

The attachment point for the repulsor effect is angled poorly and the blast will be go off in a different direction from where the arm is pointed.

Pepper deserves a better attire so I tried out some head swaps.

I think shes looks best as Captain Marvel yes?

The Mandarin was supposed to be released back in 2013. I'm not sure if this is the same figure as back then. Whatever the case he looks pretty good. I like the head sculpt. There's a good likeness. There's quite a bit of wrinkles and facial lines on his face. His beard and man bun were sculpted. The short hair is textured. I feel there's too much grey shading in his beard. The colour looks off compared to his hair. Moving on to his attire. The inner black shirt looks more like a protective vest. It's rather thick. The outer olive green tunic has nice wrinkle detail on it and is textured. The sash is a separate piece. The legs are the same as the Netflix Punisher ones. These are in a camo deco. His robes are metallic dark green in colour. It has a mainly floral design on it. You can make out many four leaf clovers. The sleeve arms too have nice detail. They have circular and floral pattern on them. The gold trimming and the design on the cuffs were well done. He does not come with any accessories. I would have liked if he came with a knife and sunglasses.

A close-up of his head. Here you can get a better look at his man bun.

He of course wears rings on his fingers. Each ring actually has a different design on it. It's great that Hasbro did that. Click images to enlarge.

The Mandarin's robes are quite restrictive so I found him something a little better. The head is loose on the Mordo body but I think it works.

Iron Man Mark XXII (22), also known as "Hotrod" is basically a repaint of the War Machine figure from the Hulkbuster BAF series. The paint apps for the flame deco is good.

Articulation

Iron Man Marn XXII has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge.

Pepper Potts has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. She can look up and down okay. Head rotation is hindered by her hair. She can arch back well and can only bend forward just a bit. She is able to raise her legs up well.

The Mandarin has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, wrist swivel, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up very well but not down due to his beard. The elbows bend just about ninety degrees. His robe is quite restrictive and  gets in the way of some poses.

Comparison shots.

This set is just okay for me. Pepper will need a new body. Mandarin is decent but I don't have much love for this particular version. I don't need the Mark XXII. They should have left him out and made this a two-pack. It would have made this cheaper. Thanks for viewing!

The Pepper body will be great for customising. The bare feet will hopefully be used on aquatic heroines like Marrina, Namora and Namorita, and also comic Mantis and Shanna the She-Devil.

Despite how the Mandarin ended being, he as pretty cool before the reveal. We can just pretend that didn't happen only think of the menacing character prior. Also, it's selling loose for cheap, will get it as my sole ML Iron Man villain which he is.
