Vikings have invaded Marina Square! Their village can be found at the central atrium on level 2. If you want to know more about them, you have until 1 March 2015 to check it out. I dropped by yesterday for a look.
There are several informative displays set up. Through them we can learn about their way of life, their weaponry, and of their conquests and adventures. I particularly found their longships and how they navigated interesting. Did you know they used ravens to see if there was land nearby? The ravens would return to the ship if there was no land.
A highlight of the event are the original costumes worn by Lagertha and Ragnar from the HISTORY™ Vikings series.
Work has begun to build the largest wall mural made out of LEGO® bricks. It'll be quite a sight once it's completed.
You too can participate in building the mural. Simply register at the counter and you'll be handed a pack of LEGO® bricks. Follow the instructions and pass the completed section to the event staff and it'll be placed on the mural. Each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Participation and your name will be included in an official Singapore Book of Records website after the event.
The highlight of my visit was seeing several customised Vikings longships made from LEGO®. They are quite impressive. Some were full dioramas with action happening on land and on sea.
The following is just a couple of them. You can see more here.
Vote for your favourite Vikings longship and you can stand a chance to win some prizes.
There are lots of prizes to be won. More details on the HISTORY Asia site.
That's it for my visit to the Vikings Village. Thanks for viewing!
