Marvel Legends Series Dormammu & The Hood (Xemnu BAF Series)

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Dormammu and The Hood.

This here is Dormammu in his classic look. Hasbro nailed it with this one! The black spiky band aside I have no other complaints. His face is creepy and has a sinister look. The lines on his face was done really well. I like the translucent flames on his head. It has different tones of red and orange in it and it lights up nicely when a light is applied, like you see at the top of the page. The eyes and mouth will light up as well. Nice! The black spikes is warped out of the package and needed some adjustment to get it to look right. The body is new. His attire though plain has quite a bit of detail. I like the puffed up sections of the sleeves and pants. And there's a good amount of wrinkles on them. The spikes of his boots are separate pieces. So too the belt and the shoulder and torso armour. The torso armour looks rather constrictive. That together with the spike band leaves little room his neck area.

Some close-ups of his face.

The black spiky band is removable. There's a little slot underneath his chin where it pegs into. The band doesn't stay on well and tends to fall out when you move his head.

I actually prefer his look without the spikes. They can be quite distracting.

Accessories. He comes with a pair of open hands, a pair of fists and two flame effect pieces which we've seen before. Great to see he has other hand options! The included BAF part is the left arm of Xemnu.

Next up, The Hood.

The Hood is a simple figure. It's basically the Stan Lee body with a new head sculpt. The head sculpt has a good resemblance to how he appears in the comics. I like the angry expression. It'll look great in action poses. I would have liked if he came with an additional head with a neutral expression. I generally display figures in vanilla poses and this is not suitable for that purpose.

I'm thinking this head can be used for a Bruce Banner figure.

Accessories. He comes with his cloak, two pistols and two magic bullets with effects. The included BAF part is the left leg of Xemnu.

The cloak is what gives him his powers. He wouldn't be The Hood without it. The cloak has a really nice look to it. It's textured and has some nice detail on it. It's torn and tattered at the end. One major issue is that it's big and too long. When you put it on him the hood portion sits above his head.

It's not all bad. To get it to look better just position the lower half further away from his body so the hood portion can sit lower. And voila. It's going to take up more space in the display though...

The magic bullets are pretty cool. I especially like the flames going round them.

Articulation

The Hood has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. His hood only looks good in neutral positions. It will look awkward in any other pose.

Dormammu has a ball joint upper neck, ball joint lower neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel and up and down hinge gun gripping hands (the other two sets of hands are the standard swivel and hinge), ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, boot swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can hardly look up or down. Turning his head will dislodge the spike band thingy. He cannot raise his arms up all the way due to the shoulder covers. The ab crunch allows about one click forward and one click back. The ankle hinges are very stiff on my figure.

Comparison shots.

Dormammu is nice. The Hood is okay. Thanks for viewing!

Cool review! I've got Dormammu preordered along with Red Skull and I'm sure I'll get Arcade and Lady Deathstryke. I'm not familiar with the Hood at all but he is a pretty cool looking figure. Very unusual.

Ha! Love the wrestling scene. Cool figures.

The Hood looks like a good figure for making generic muggers and robbers for Spider-man and Daredevil to fight. How well do other heads fit on the body like the Hydra goon head?

All the Hood needs to be made into Bruce Banner is to have his eyes painted green (Just before he transforms, his eyes usually become that colour) and purple trousers (or a transplant from Purple Man, Maybe)
