Marvel Legends Series 80th Anniversary Thor Ragnarok - Skurge & Hela

Yet more Marvel Legends have arrived. Here's a look at Skurge and Hela from Thor: Ragnarok.

Skurge is the main reason for getting this set. He looks great. However he's also a little small and short as you'll see in the comparisons later. The body is all new. There's a great amount of sculpted detail for his armour. I like the different sections and the straps on the back. Another great thing about it is it's textured. I love the silver line work. The combination of silver and the metallic blue tone looks very nice. The "skirt" section is a separate piece and it is flexible. The head sculpt is decent. There's some likeness but I feel something is off. Maybe he needs a fiercer expression. The paint apps are not great. There's some blemishes here and there.

The shoulder armour and the inner collar pieces have swivel and may be moved up and down a little a little bit. This gives the arms more space to move but not much. The pieces can be removed. Without them he would have a nice casual look if not for the holes on both front and back.

Accessories. He comes with a pair of trigger finger firing hands, his axe and two machine guns.

The axe handle has nice detail on it and the head has a rugged and worn appearance. It is all black in colour and comes across as plasticky. I think it might look better if some dark metallic grey was applied to the head.

I think you might be familiar with Des and Troy. When used together they DESTROY! Lol. The machine guns have small thin grips. They are loose in his hands. They would likely flop around or fall off if not for his trigger fingers.

Hela turned out better than I thought she would and she goes some way to justifying the cost of the set and her inclusion. The body reuses the same one as the previous version. They've updated it to be more screen accurate. Her chest area is now black and they also painted the cape bits on her upper arms green. Metallic green was used for the design of her costume and cape. She stands out more now and I like it. She also has a nice new head sculpt. The likeness is good and I love that gritted teeth expression which is great for action scenes. Her skin tone is more pale now. Hmm... I think I prefer the darkish tone of the previous version. The design of her crown has also been updated to be more screen accurate.

And here's how she looks without her cape.

A close up of her face. The eyes were painted well and I like the eyeshadow applied around her eyes.

Accessories. She comes with two alternate heads, an extra right hand crushing Mjolnir and a flame effect piece. I would have liked if she came with another of her swords.

Mjolnir being crushed in her hand is a nice inclusion. Unfortunately it came out small.

Both alternate heads look great and have a good likeness. I especially like the one with the messy hair (below right). That will probably be the head that I'll use for display. You can make out some veins above her eyes. Click images to enlarge.

Comparing the skin tones.

The flame effect piece I believe is meant to be the Eternal Flame which she uses to raise her army.

Articulation

Skurge has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. He cannot raise his arms fully due to the shoulder armour. The elbows have good bend. The torso joint allows good bend to the sides and back. He can only bend forward a bit. The "skirt" piece is flexible and he can raise his legs decently. If more room is needed you can raise the "skirt" up his body.

Hela has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. She can look up and down decently with the crowned head. With the alternate heads she cannot look up due to the hair. Head rotation is also hindered.

Comparison shots. Skurge looks a little small and short. I think he's around the same height as Thor in the movie.

This set is just okay for me. Skurge while nice is also disappointing for his size. Hela got a nice update and I do like all of her new head sculpts. Thanks for viewing!

  1. I can't believe Hela doesn't have any swords!

  2. Just wanna correct you on the description for the 2 weapons that the Executioner comes with, they are M16 rifles, not machine guns. Hasbro did short change him in the hgt dept as you stated.
