Star Wars The Black Series Gamorrean Guard

Here's a look at the Star Wars The Black Series Gamorrean Guard.

What a cute creature... I mean fierce creature. Those fur coverings sure don't help his image. They kinda look like diapers. Anyone remembers that episode of Mr Bean looking after a kid? Anyway soft goods material was used for the "fur" coverings which makes it look more realistic. The fur is tucked into his waist and it does not move around. Underneath he's wearing a pair of big textured brown trunks. The trunks are what help keep his round shape. They are flexible and this allows him to raise his legs a little bit more. There's a great amount of detail on his attire. The design, seams, threads, wrinkles and creases of his brown tunic were all sculpted. And I like that it has dark shading on it. The shoulder armour and forearm bracers too have good detail. They are textured and dented in places. The straps is a separate piece and it too is textured. His skin looks tough and hardened. I like that his nails were painted. He's got a great head sculpt. He looks mean. I think the horns and tusks were well done. His skin is wrinkly and looks hardened. The well detailed and textured helmet looks to be a separate piece stuck on. One thing I don't like is the brown applied at his nose and lips. I feel it's too thick and contrasting. I think a lighter tone for that would be better. The rest of the paint apps is good.

Accessories. He comes with two axes and a lance. The blades of the axes are textured and have dents and cracks in them. The edges has a bit of brown painted on to simulate rust. The axes look "plasticky". Maybe some metallic paint would have helped. I also would have liked more "rust" applied. The lance has nice sculpted detail on it and it too has "rust" painted at the points. The Gamorrean Guard can grip his weapons well in either hand.

Articulation. He's got what I think is a ball hinge neck. The ball joint is attached downwards into the neck. Then there's a jaw hinge, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint waist, ball hips, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. The head may be moved up and down but he seems to be constantly looking straight no matter the position. If I had to say he can look down and not up. He can only turn his head a little. He cannot lift his arms up all the way due to the shoulder armour. The ball joint waist offers a pretty good range of motion. He can raise his legs ups a little more than forty-five degrees. I would have liked if he had thigh swivel.

Comparison shots.

Nice figure. It looks good and I think the articulation is good enough for the character. I will probably get one more. Thanks for viewing!
