Marvel Legends Series Avengers: Infinity War Thor / Rocket Raccoon / Groot Three-Pack

A Toys'R Us exclusive, the Avengers: Infinity War Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot three-pack.

This is out in Toys'R Us in Singapore. Normally I would be happy picking up something like this. Not this time though. I feel sick. Sick with myself for caving and buying the pack at SGD149.99. Yes that is what they are charging. If you don't believe me you can check it out on their site. I think it will go for USD49.99 in the US so go figure. I'm happy that it was brought in but at that price, ughhhh...

Thor is my most wanted figure from this set. I love this new look as I think he looks more badass. The head sculpt is new. He has a furrowed brow and the eye-patch was sculpted. His sculpted facial hair isn't as thick as on the figure from the Valkyrie two-pack. His hair is also shorter here. This is notable on the back of his head. I like that there's black shading in his hair. Annoyed about the splotch of paint in his beard. Guess I was too upset about the price to check the figure thoroughly... His eye is fully silver in colour and there's tiny streaks of lightning emanating from his eye. To further show he is using his abilities, there are also streaks of lightning on his torso. I'm not usually a fan of painted effects on the figure but I think in this case it makes him look less dull.  Thor is on a new body. His attire looks thick and leather like. The familiar design and studs were all sculpted. The forearms with the sculpted bracers too are new, as are his dark grey pants which are textured. There are lines running down vertically which kinda reminds me of Darth Vader. His boots are plated. I like that it was painted with dark metallic gun metal.

Close-ups of his head. You can better see the lightning streaks at his eye. Click images to enlarge.

A quick comparison. This head sculpt is slightly bigger than the Ragnarok two-pack version.

If you're wondering if the Thor hands from the Valkyrie two-pack may be used on this figure, they can. The skin tone is a little different but it's passable.

"Teenage" Groot looks okay. Similar to his father, there's quite a lot of tree bark detail on him. I don't have the basic version but I think this figure has more detail. Certainly more articulation. He has green moss painted in places. There's a big patch on top of his head, and also a small shoot growing. I would have preferred if it wasn't there as it's quite distracting. I like his expression. He has a rebellious look about him which we have seen him to be in the GOTG2 end credits and Infinity War trailer.

Rocket Raccoon is a repaint of the figure we got in the Mantis BAF series.

He comes withe the snarling head. His fur is of a darker tone on this version. The blue of his attire is richer. The straps and patches were painted dark brown and black respectively.

Accessories

Thor comes with Heimdall's sword. I would have preferred if he came with Stormbreaker and more lightning effect pieces.

Rocket comes with a large blaster and two hand guns. The hand guns are the same ones we got previously.

Groot comes with what I believe is a gaming device. We saw him playing it in the GOTG2 end credits. I'm going to call it a "game pad".

The grip and hilt of Heimdall's sword are of a darker tone with this version. The blade too is of a darker tone and is clean.

I think Rocket's large blaster is new. It has nice sculpted detail on it. It has a bit of gold paint detail on the barrel.

A closer look at Groot's game pad. The device is translucent with a black frame. There are white specks and larger purple circles on the screen.

Articulation

Thor has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down very well. The articulation offers quite a good range of movement.

Groot has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, swivel hinge knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. He can bend forward a bit but not back.

Rocket has a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, wrist swivel, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, swivel hinge knees, ankle swivel and swivel hinge tail.

Comparison shots.

Thor is a great figure. Groot is okay. I like the new big blaster for Rocket. It's not worth the current retail price over here. I succumbed to my collector's fear that I might not see it again... at times it's the right decision, most of the time it's not... Thanks for viewing!

Great Review!
Thor looks better than I thought, though I still prefer the one from the Ragnarok 2-Pack. Groot is a fun figure. I think he would look better with his eyes painted entirely black. Rocket is just a cheap repack. They should have left him out and make a better price.

By the way: I discovered this blog just recently and I'm incredible impressed! The reviews are great and the photos are even better. It's fun going through all the content. I'd like to see some classic reviews. I think there are some figures you haven't written about - Gamora or Mantis for instance.

Great review and pics as always, Jason!

@Damon - Thanks for your kind words! As for reviews of old figures it's unlikely I will get to them for now. It's harder to make time these days...

@J Hernandez - Thanks!

Just purchased this 3 pack but have one major gripe: is it me or is the height scaling a little off for Thor? Is he that much taller than everyone else in the MCU movies?
