They went with a black and white photo for the back of the packaging and the card. I would have thought they would use a coloured photo. You know because this is the blue costume. It would have made this figure even more attractive.
If you've watched the Snyder Cut you would know that Superman wears black in the movie. The black costume is a mass release figure while this blue and red costume is a Target exclusive. I prefer this version so I got it. The figure looks great. I especially love the costume details. Practically his whole costume is textured. I expect nothing less from McFarlane. A small gripe is that the little v at the top of his boots faces a little too much to the sides. I would have preferred them more centralised. The head sculpt is okay. There is a good likeness to Henry Cavill but it's not quite there. The paint for his eyes and lips is good. There's good detail for his hair.
Just to show you the sculpted detail on his back.
He has a big cape, and all of the material is bunched up here.
Some close-ups of his head. Click images to enlarge.
He only comes with a base and stand. I would have liked if he came with extra hands, at least an open right hand and a left fist to complete the sets The hands are removable so if you have other Superman figures you can try borrowing from them. I tried on the left fist from the first McFarlane Superman. That's the only other Superman figure I have. It's a little small and there's a noticeable colour difference. I also just noticed that the painted hands of this new figure and the joints are of different tones.
Articulation. He's got a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, up and down movement at the shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, revolver joint wrists, ball joint torso, ball joint waist, peg hinge hips with a bit of swivel, double jointed knees, revolver joint ankles and toe hinge. He can look down decently. I would have liked if he could look up more for flying poses. He can tilt his head very well. There's not much bend forward, or to the sides. He can arch back more.
The following pic is to show the sculpt extends down into waist.
Comparison shots.
Nice figure. Wished he came with extra hands. Thanks for viewing!
Great review as always! This figure is soo close to being perfect but the awkward articulation and the lack of interchangeable hands, I prefer him to have 2 proper-sized fists, makes this another mediocre Mcfarlane action figure. How come the JL Batman is almost perfect?
ReplyDeleteWould there be any better headsculpts that might fit this figure?
