Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Avengers: Endgame War Machine and Iron Patriot.
It's good to see Rhodey getting some love. He has not one but two suits of armour released this year. The first one being the War Machine armour from the Endgame Hulk BAF series. The War Machine armour is very much a concept version. I don't mind it though. I think it looks great. I like it's size and bulk. It's big enough to use with the comic based figures and that is probably what I'm going to do. There's a good amount of detail on the armour. Good paint apps too. The red outline for the eyes and reactor were well done and I've no complaints with regards to the silver areas. Gun metal plastic was used for the dark grey areas. It has some tiny shiny bits in it. One thing I don't quite like is the mount for the shoulder cannon. It spoils the look for me. I would have liked if it were on a hinge and were able to slide back so that the cannon will be on his back.
The other armour is the Iron Patriot. Before I go further I like to mention that my figure is defective. His right foot looks to be partially broken and was dangling from his ankle. I haven't been able to fix it. So it may look like one leg is longer than the other. I've adjusted it at the knee to compensate.
The first time I watched Endgame I didn't realise that the suit Rhodey wore during the final battle was the Iron Patriot. It was quite dark during that scene and I thought it was a new version of War Machine. It came as a surprise when I found out later. I thought he didn't like it and it was just something he had to comply with. I mean even his password was "War Machine Rockx" back in Iron Man 3. Going back to the figure, Hasbro modified the concept War Machine and gave it some new parts. The upper torso, forearms and feet are new. With the new parts Iron Patriot stands a little taller than War Machine. I like the look of his upper body. He looks heavily armoured and more menacing with the guns on his forearms. The legs seem longer and slimmer which I attribute to the lack of a different colour on his thighs. There are holes on his back for his weaponry to peg in. I don't know why they designed it with a peg protruding from his back. Was it meant to be a switch for some action feature? I feel the colours on him are too bright and he does not really fit in with the rest of the MCU figures. He's going to need some serious black wash.
Some close-ups of the helmet.
The open helmeted head from the Hulkbuster BAF series may be used with this figure. It's a little small but it works. The colours are quite matching too.
Accessories. War Machine comes with a shoulder cannon and two arm cannons. The shoulder cannon has a ball joint and may be pointed up and down a little as well as to the side. The arm cannons peg in at the back of his forearms.
Iron Patriot comes with two shoulder rocket launchers, two shoulder cannons and two missile launchers which attach to the thighs. The shoulder weapons have only swivel articulation where they attach on his back. The included BAF parts are two heads for the Bro Thor BAF.
And here's how they look fully equipped. I wish War Machine had as much weaponry.
Articulation. They both have a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. They both cannot look or down that much. Head rotation is a little restricted by the sculpt at the shoulder area. The shoulder armour is flexible and allows use of the articulation. There's not much bend at the elbows due to the size of their forearms. They can only bend forward and back a little bit. There's more bend to their sides. Ankle articulation is limited due to the armour. In Iron Patriot's case I can't move the hinge at all. It seems to be stuck. There's not too many nice poses they can do.
Comparison shots.
Both are nice figures. I like their size and bulk. Between the two I prefer War Machine for his colours. Iron Patriot wins in terms of weaponry. Thanks for viewing!
Awesome photos. Can't wait to get my Thor Lebowski BAF together.
