Marvel Legends 80th Anniversary Hulk & Wolverine Two-Pack and SDCC 2019 Exclusive Hulk

Warning! Pic heavy post! Here's a look at both the Marvel 80th Anniversary and SDCC Hulk figures. And also Wolverine.

Let's get Wolverine out of the way first. Please excuse the badly warped left leg. This here is the first appearance Wolverine. He has the short "ears" and the whiskers. I'm not a fan of the look and he'll most likely end up in storage. The body reuses the tiger stripe costume body. The blue shoulder portion of his costume are attached at the upper arms. They're not flush to his costume and you'll notice gaps, especially from the back view. The shoulder pieces have swivel and you'll want to take note of their position when posing. His costume is of a lighter tone than what we got previously. I think it's a closer match to the 90s animated series look. I believe the upcoming three-pack Wolverine will be similarly coloured as well.

A close up of the head. The black outline on his mask and the whiskers were well done. It's a shame to send the figure straight to storage. I think I'll give him an unmasked and voila! A new Wolverine figure.

Accessories. Wolverine comes with an extra pair of fists with claws retracted.

And now the Hulk! The Hulk is one of my favourite characters! I've been looking forward to the 80th version as it looks to be the best classic Hulk yet! This guy is huge! I love the size and bulk. He stands over most normal sized character and is not overly large (to go along with ML) like with the Marvel Select version. The head sculpt is superb. I like his gritted teeth expression. And with those eyebrows and the hair with some light green shading in it, I can't really ask for more. Well except for maybe a couple more alternate heads. Lol. The body has nice muscle definition. You can also make out the veins in some areas. I love his light green skin tone. It's not just a plain green, some patches are lighter and they did it really well. His pants are a plain purple and are ripped at the legs area. I would have preferred if his pants were ripped at the waist area as well but I don't mind it as it is.

The SDCC Hulk (below right) uses the same body as the 80th Anniversary Hulk with a different head sculpt and a new gripping right hand. I'm not sure from where this Hulk is based on. He looks pretty good. It would be even better if not for the paint around his eyes. It spoils his look. I feel his angry, roaring expression was taken down a notch because of it. I can't recall what this sort of hairstyle is called. There's just a tuft of it at the top and the sides are shaven. The shaved portion turned out very well. His skin tone is darker here and his veins were painted which I'm okay with. His nails and toenails were painted here which is nice. His pants has patches which are of a lighter tone. Also the rips and tears are more prominent due to some white shading on them. Between the two, I very much prefer the 80th Anniversary version.

Some close-ups of their heads. They did the eyes very well.

Accessories

80th Anniversary Hulk comes with a ripped shirt which drapes nicely on his shoulders. He also comes with an extra set of open hands.

The SDCC Hulk only comes with a crushed pipe.

The pipe looks great. The plastic used for it is solid. I especially like how the crushed section turned out with the twisted metal and finger imprints. I also like that it's got some black wash on it. The pipe fits very tightly in his hand. You'll need to pry his fingers a bit to get him to hold it.

The 80th Anniversary version may hold it in his open hand. It just doesn't look as good compared to a gripping hand. Obviously...

Articulation

Both Hulks have a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, elbow swivel and hinge, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down decent enough. The butterfly joints only work one direction, towards his back. He can't bend forward much with the torso joint. He can bend to the sides and back more.

Wolverine has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, boot swivel and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

I love the 80th Anniversary Hulk. SDCC Hulk needs to have his darkened eyes sorted out. Wolverine is good. I'm just not a fan of that look. Thanks for viewing!

  1. THIS is what I'm talking about! Excellent comparison pictures! Loved that you used that Toy Biz Bruce Banner! Just got my Hulk and Wolverine today, haven't even opened them yet. How about a pic with the Hasbro Abomination? Tremendous job yet again.
