A fresh batch of Marvel Legends has arrived. I thought I'll start off with the Kraven's Last Hunt two-pack.
The cardboard insert features comic panels from the story. Cool.
I was looking forward to getting Kraven in his classic look. Holding it in hand though I'm not quite as keen about it. This figure has a couple of issues, one of them being the ankles. Look at the size of them. Swollen they are. Larger feet might help. His feet are a little flat and he has some trouble holding a running pose. Another thing I don't like is his face. The sculpt I'm okay with, rather it's the eyebrows and facial hair. The eyebrows go too high and it looks like someone took a marker to his face. I do like the angry gritted teeth expression and hair.
Here's a comparison with the Rhino BAF version. The figure largely reuses the same body aside from the lower legs and a trigger finger right hand. The lion head vest is the same, just repainted. Nicer coloured I must say. I like the colour tones. The mane on the back has some nice shading in it. His pants were cast in that brownish colour with the print painted on. The arm bands too were painted. The belt is a separate piece. The skin tone of this figure is a little more tan than the previous version. And he has chest hair painted on. With the lack of boots he's slightly shorter.
The heads may be swapped.
Spider-man is pretty much the same figure as the one from the Sandman BAF series. This is most likely the cloth costume and not the symbiote costume the back of the package claims it to be. The white section on the back of his hands is solid without any hole in the middle. That's how I tell anyway. Do correct me if I'm wrong. (Update - The spider logos are also different. Thanks ERROR for pointing it out.) Maybe it's just my figure but the black on this figure has a scuffed up kind of look. The black plastic on the previous version was a richer black. You can't tell the difference in the pics.
Accessories
Spidey comes with an alternate beat-up unmasked head and an extra pair of web-shooting hands.
Kraven comes with a spear and a rifle.
The unmasked head reuses the same one as from the Mary Jane two-pack. They gave him a bruised eye and some cuts and scratches. They should have given us a new head sculpt. This doesn't work with his pleasant expression. He looks kind of sadistic and creepy in fact. The hair piece wasn't attached properly on my figure which is annoying.
Kraven's spear reuses the same one as before. The colours are different. I like the wood grain on the shaft. His grip of it is loose in his right hand. It's fine in his left.
The rifle is a nice piece. You can't really get him to shoot straight with his grip though.
Articulation
Kraven has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel and up and down hinge right wrist, swivel hinge left wrist, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot.
Spider-man has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.
Comparison shots.
Kraven is a little disappointing. Face, lower leg issues... I do like the rest of the figure. Spidey is okay. I suggest waiting for a discount before picking up this set. Thanks for viewing!
