Marvel Legends Series Ebony Maw & MCU Thanos (Armoured) BAF

I thought I'll finish up the Black Order so here are Ebony Maw and the Armoured Thanos BAF.

I loved Ebony Maw in Infinity War. He was probably the most badass of the Children of Thanos. He was cool, calm and deadly. He had a menacing presence. Which I can't say the same for the figure. There's just something off about him. There's good detail in the head sculpt, but I think it still needs more facial lines. And I also think a different expression might help. He looks like someone who's simply wearing a mask. They did some dry brushing on his face which is nice. The hair is nice too. I like that there's some shading in. The body looks good. I like the textured black areas of his attire. There's nice detail on his grey tunic and I like the gold lining. The flaps of the tunic are flexible and allows leg articulation. He does not come with any accessories. The included BAF part is the left leg for Thanos.

For Thanos the parts list is as follows:

Head - Hercules
Torso - Living Laser
Right Arm and Weapon - Nighthawk
Left Arm - Ronin
Right Leg - Citizen V
Left Leg - Ebony Maw

Going by the Endgame trailers it looks like Thanos will be putting on his armour again. So it's timely we are getting this figure. He looks good. He's got a great head sculpt. I like his angry, gritted teeth expression. He's likely going to have a tougher fight this time around. The armour looks great. There's lots of nice sculpted detail. And I like the shine of the gold plastic too. One minor gripe about that is it's that it's too clean and could use a dark wash. Another thing is the "gap" between the waist and the legs. There's actually material there but I guess due to the design of the armour it looks that way. I'm also not too pleased with the size and articulation. More on that later.

A close up of his head. Nice teeth he's got there.

The heads from the MCU 10th Anniversary three-pack may be swapped on. They fit the peg and the skin tone matches.

Thanos comes with a double bladed weapon of some sort. I assume they are blades cause of the straight edges which have a few chips in them. The sides have some panelling type of detail. I'm guessing the weapon incorporates some technology. We'll just have to wait and see.

Articulation

Thanos has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel and up and down hinge right wrist, swivel hinge left wrist, ab crunch, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle swivel and hinge. Not having a way to turn his body is a major bummer. Also the lack of ankle pivot. Not that the leg armour will allow much pivot action anyway. The shoulder armour restricts him from raising his arms properly. I'm okay with the other points for a large character.

Ebony Maw has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. There's good bend at the elbows.

Comparison shots. Compared with the previous figure he looks to have lost some bulk. He should have at least be the same size.

Ebony Maw is nice while the Thanos BAF is just okay for me. Thanks for viewing!

  1. cool, thanks for the review, I hope you review the whole wave and also Shazam, I want you're the one to review it because I really like ur detailed reviews most of all the size comparisons, it gives an idea how it scale and look with other figs in the same scale line.

  2. @hanns - Thanks for your kind words! I'll try to finish up the Thanos series. I won't be getting the DC Multiverse Shazam. I have an eye on the Mafex version.

  3. Love the review. Detailed as always. Do the hands from the 3-pack Thanos fit on the BAF? Thank you.
