Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Omega Red.
Omega Red is a character I never really took to. Other than to add him to the X-men villains I wasn't really excited for the figure to be honest. That is until I held him in hand and found out he's on a new body. Was this ever mentioned? Maybe I missed this bit of info. This new body has butterfly joints. Yeah! Now that is exciting. I'm wondering what other characters will be made with it. Compared to other large sized character the torso has a smaller waist. The legs look a little chunky. The knee pads are large so his stance needs to be wider to keep them apart. Makes you wonder how he walks. The forearms too are new. That's where the tentacles extend out from. The harness is a separate piece and is removable. There's nice detail on it. The shoulder pads are textured. Hasbro has done a good job with head sculpts of late. Not in this case though. He wears a pained, constipated expression on his face. It's quite disappointing. The metal plates on his cheeks were sculpted. The Omega symbol was sculpted on the headband. It's also painted on the back of his hands. I forgot to mention that. The hair looks good and it has some white shading in it.
The harness is removable. Here you can better see the butterfly joints.
Accessories. He comes with two longer tentacles. The BAF part is the left leg of Sauron.
The long tentacles are pre-posed. They are flexible and can still be used for some nice battle poses. Simply pull out the shorter tentacle and put the long one in. I have some trouble doing so. Must be my fat fingers... He needs some forearm swivel so that the tentacles may be used better.
Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. The harness will get raised the higher you raise his arms. He can bend forward well. The ab crunch allows two clicks forward and one click back.
Comparison shots.
Great figure! Shame about his facial expression. I like that he came with the two sets of tentacles. Thanks for viewing!
impressive figure !! (and nicely photographed)

ReplyDeleteWhich one do you like more, the old toybiz omega red or this new one by hasbro? Thanks for a very detailed review, the comparison shots are very helpful.
ReplyDeleteHasbro version blows away the TB version as do almost all the Hasbro redos of TB figures. The TB versions are very outdated & small, not to mention way too articulated to the point that they almost look like Marionets. They were great for their time but the action figure tech of today is vastly superior to what TB had to work with back in 2002.
