S.H.Figuarts Iron Spider (Avengers: Infinity War Spider-man)

It seems I'm not quite done with the MCU figures just yet. Here's a look at the S.H.Figuarts Iron Spider.

I did no pre-order this guy initially as I thought the Iron Spider legs would come with a different release. Pics of it only started appearing after the movie came out. That had me scrambling around a bit to secure a piece which fortunately I did. They really should have released that bit of info earlier. I guess they did not want to spoil the movie. But I thought that Iron Spider was common knowledge... Anyway...

There's not much to say about the Iron Spider aside from that it's a great looking figure. There's really nice detail on the costume. Practically the whole suit is textured. The bands at his wrists are separate pieces. The left one is a little bent on my figure and is not flushed against his forearm. I should be able to correct that. The paint apps are superb. The lines are clean and straight. The gold really makes him pop. The red and blue areas are matte. I feel they should have some shine to them as well. His suit did look metallic on screen.

Accessoires.  He comes with two extra sets of interchangeable eye styles, four extra sets of hands (web gripping hands, "call me" hands, web shooting hands and open hands), a peg extension for use with S.H.Figuarts stands, one short web shooting line, one long web shooting line, one curved web line, back panel with the Iron Spider legs and one eye popping tool (not pictured).

To change the eyes, simply remove his head and push the eye out using the included tool.

A better look at the different eye styles. I personally like the second set (below right). I like his eyes slanted more and that's the set which I would use for most of the pics.

To use the web shooting lines you'll first need to remove his hands and then loop them onto the wrist joints. After which you replace the web shooting hands or whichever hand you fancy. The web lines are more secure in this way then say pegging them into the hands. The downside of this though is that we'll see the white loop at the wrists which we shouldn't.

Spidey is able to hold the curved, flexible web line with his web line holding hands. The line will fit snugly in the tiny slot. Take note that one end fits better than the other. Don't force it in as the line can break and have stress marks so do take care. If you want him to hold the line further down instead of just the end it can be done, however the grip is loose and the positioning of the line will need more adjustment.

Now for the main feature, the Iron Spider legs! There is a panel on his back. You'll need to pry it out with your nails. Do be careful as you don't want to scratch any paint off. It gets easier after a few times.

Once that panel is off simply insert the panel with the legs that's it. The legs are gold in colour and have a little bit of detail on them. I really love the shine of the gold. Each leg has a swivel where it attaches to his back and four hinges along the length of it. The legs may only be rotated just a bit which is a bummer. And I found that the upper pair of legs may be rotated more than bottom set. The design restricts further rotation. The hinges may be moved in and out so that's good. Now the legs look good on him and all but I would have preferred if they were longer and stronger and raise him off his feet.

Articulation. He's got a dumbbell joint upper neck, dumbbell joint lower neck, ball joint butterfly shoulders, revolver joint shoulders, double jointed elbows, revolver joint wrists, ball joint torso, ball joint waist, peg hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, revolver joint ankles (swivel, hinge, pivot) and toe hinge. The articulation is superb and he can do lots of nice poses. Bicep swivel would make it even better. The way things are, he cannot properly grip the web line over his head to swing for example.

Comparison shots. I don't have any of the previous SHF Spideys so I can't give you a comparison with them. He's too small to use with Marvel Legends. I'll have to stick him in the background.

The SHF Iron Spider is a great figure. Great accessories and articulation. Thanks for viewing!
