Star Wars Black Series 3.75" Luke Skywalker & Yoda (Jedi Training)

"A Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware the Dark Side."

When I first saw the images of Luke it became one of my top wants. It looked to have super articulation. So I was very excited when I got this figure. But that slowly turned into frustration. The upper body has excellent articulation while the lower half is disappointing. I'll expand on that later. Right now I'll like to talk a little of the sculpt.

Luke has a great head sculpt. I think the likeness is very good. They did a good job with his hair, having some strands droop down and sticking to his face. It gives him a sweaty appearance. His arms are long but I don't really mind it as that's too accommodate the extra articulation. His singlet is textured and well painted to look sweat soaked and stained. His pants too were well sculpted and they were brushed to look dirt covered. One issue I have is that the hip joints were left unpainted. They are flesh coloured and are quite noticeable.

He comes with a number of accessories. He's got an extra pair of interchangeable hands. I swapped the open hands for the gripping ones in the following pic. The worn looking belt he was wearing in the package is removable.

He also comes with a blaster pistol. It's made of soft plastic and it cannot fully fit into the holster. An interesting thing about this holster is that the thigh straps are left dangling. I wasn't sure about it being like that so I re-watched the Dagobah training scene. Sure enough, Luke didn't fasten the straps. There's a little peg on his belt but there's no way to hang his lightsaber on it.

He also comes with his lightsaber activated.

And now for the articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists (up down hinge on the gripping hands and left right hinge on the open hands), waist rotation, peg hinge hips, swivel hinge knees and ankle hinge and pivot. The hip peg is attached up into the torso. It's similar to the Marvel Legends Doc Samson. For him to lift up his leg, you need to turn the whole leg. The knee swivel helps to correct that a little. But then comes another problem, the knees can hardly bend due to the pants sculpt. There's not a lot of good poses he can do. It's a waste, especially since he has ankle pivots.

I wasn't going to get Yoda initially but I thought I should since the two go together. He has an older look as seen in the Empire Strikes Back. His forehead is bumpy and there are wrinkles and age lines on his face. When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not. His soft goods robes is frayed.

I hate seeing him bundled up. I think having the robe open is much better.

The robe is removable. His light brown attire underneath is textured and has good fabric detail. The pants legs has sculpted frayed lines. His hands and feet were well sculpted and he's got painted nails.

Accessories. He comes with his walking stick, a necklace and the pouch in which Luke carries him in. You need to remove his head in order to put on the necklace. The pouch was well stitched together and has light faded colours.

Just to better show you the size of the pouch.

Now for the intended purpose. Luke stands well carrying Yoda. The bend at Yoda's right elbow is larger and it wraps around Luke's head better. The waist clip of the pouch is large.

I think Luke should train for competitive walking.

Yoda has five points of articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, peg shoulders and hips.

Some size comparison shots. I don't have many Star Wars figures.

These two are good figures. I ended up liking Yoda more than Luke. If only the leg articulation of Luke were executed better... Thanks for viewing!

  1. What is the difference between this new black series and the previous SW figures that have come out?

  2. Together, they are truly incredible. The backpack for Yoda may be a bit big for a 3.75 scale but I don't think it's a big deal.

  3. Luke's arms are a bit elongated but a nice looking figure overall. As always great pics!
