COSFEST (2014) XIII: The Final Fantasy

COSFEST XIII was held from 5 to 6 July at D'Marquee at Downtown East. D'Marquee has been home to Cosfest for thirteen editions. It will soon be undergoing renovations and it is uncertain if the event can be held there again. Hence the theme for this year "The Final Fantasy". I'm sure that the place will be missed. The organisers, Singapore Cosplay Club (SCC) has announced that Cosfest is still on for next year. Just that the venue is yet to be determined. Right, now here's a look at some of the stuff that went on at this year's event.

The turnout over the two days of the event was fantastic!

In the centre of the hall was a display of cosplay accessories, showcased by Pan-in-the-Box. They are the first shop in Singapore to sell cosplay items and they have been a part of Cosfest since the start. They were of course back again this year.

Other booths at the event include ACS Comics and Otaku Tachi selling a wide range of anime and manga merchandise.

If you were looking for something more unique, lining both sides of the hall were the creator tables.

To celebrate the launch of Phantasy Star Online 2, Asiasoft had brought in Yugene Fay who cosplayed as the Hunter Class from the game.

A new highlight (for me anyway) was the Coscards Wall. If you had a coscard you could stick it on. There are so many of them! And this is just one side of the wall.

Moving on to some of the stage segments. The event began with the Cosfest Grand Catwalk. Thirty cosplayers got to strut their stuff and show off their costumes.

You can see the rest of those pic here.

There was a Running Man event on Day 1. Cosplayers formed teams and had to perform various task.  The game zone was the whole of Downtown East. The following pic is a shot of the winning team.

On Day 2 of the event there was a Cosfest Service Award Ceremony. This was to thank and recognise those behind the scenes of making Cosfest to what it is today.

Renowned cosplayers Yugene Fay and Reika who have regularly supported SCC events were acknowledged as well.

The World Cosplay Summit Singapore was held. The winning team will represent Singapore at the World Cosplay Summit in Japan. The costumes and props used were simply outstanding.

Here are all the participating teams.

The winners was the team of Jokumi and Yin. They performed a skit based on Sakura Wars.

Over the two days there were various anime song and dance performances. I stopped to watch when I went back into the hall to cool off. The weather was hot and humid.

I spent most of my time walking around and taking photos. I saw someone cosing as Akazukin ChaCha Magical Princess. That really brought back memories.

Here are some group shots to close. Click images to enlarge.

This year's event was really wonderful. I look forward to it again next year. Thanks for viewing!

  1. I went to this event and I can see that the number of dressed-up Cosplayers are getting more and more every year. I think if you are under 20 and you don't know what is anime, you ought to be living in Pulau Ubin amongst the forest.
