A very much delayed look at Ravager Thor and the Korg BAF.
By now I'm sure most of you would have watched Thor: Love and Thunder. How did you find it? I personally did not like it. It's probably the first Marvel movie I did not enjoy. Too much comedy... Thor was practically fooling around the whole time... Next up is Black Panther I think. Hopefully that will be better.
Ravager Thor reminds me a lot of Thunderstrike for his attire. I wonder if they had that in mind when designing his look. He has on a singlet, vest, pants and boots. The body is all new. The elbows and knees are pinless. His singlet was sculpted and is textured. Printed on it is what I think is The World Tree. Is has nine circles on it depicting the nine realms. The tree has a a bit of blue sprayed around it giving it a "glow". You can get a better look at it a little further down. The vest is a separate piece and is textured. There are creases on it. And you can make out the seams and the stitching on it. It has some black paint applied on some sections which is nice. What impressed me the the most are the metal studs on the back. They were really well painted. There's also nice detail on the pants and boots. The strapping on the boots was sculpted on and well painted.
He's got a great head sculpt. The likeness is good. The facial features were well done. My figure has a blemish on his nose which is annoying. The hair has some great detail and I like that it has some dark shading in it. If you've been following my blog you would know that the head can be used with most other MCU Thor figures which is great!
Just to show you the metal studs on the back. Really nice!
The vest is removable. And this is how he looks without it. We can use the body for a tough biker guy.
Accessories. He only comes with Stormbreaker. The included BAF part is the left arm of Korg.
Stormbreaker is the same one that came with the armoured Thor from the same wave. This one has darker gun metal colours for the blade. The handle is also of a slightly darker tone.
Next up Korg.
Here's the parts list:
- Head and mace - King Valkyrie
- Torso - Groot
- Right arm - Starlord
- Left arm - Ravager Thor
- Right leg - Gorr
- Left leg - Mighty Thor
Some of the character choices in a wave are frustrating at times and Korg is one of them. He's not a character that was really needed. I know they have to plan these figures months in advance and try not to spoil the movie but still... they could have given us Miek or one of the goats. At least Korg isn't just a repaint. He has new parts on him such as the head, arms and legs. The elbows and knees are pinless. I believe the torso, hands and feet are reused. The fur cover and straps on his torso is a separate piece. The sculpt of the fur looks great. What's odd is the paint apps. It's a darker brown tone on the front and a lighter tone at the back. Two separate colours with no blending... Hasbro is better than that. The straps and all the other leather like armour pieces look good. They are textured and I like that they painted the studs on them. The belt buckle is shaped like a goat's head. There's great sculpted detail for it. The design on his paints was sculpted. The fur on his lower legs are coloured the same way as the fur on his shoulders... darker brown in front and a lighter tone at the back. One of the most annoying things about the figure is his wide stance. No matter how I try to press them in they keep springing back out... really frustrating...
Korg has a nice head sculpt. It's different from the previous version. He has on a neutral expression here and has a friendly vibe about him. There is a bit of subtle shading on his skin which is nice.
A quick comparison. The head is different. Also his rocky skin is of a much lighter grey tone.
Korg comes with his mace. It's the same one we've seen before. This one has more gold on the shaft and dark grey colour for the head.
Articulation
Thor has a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can hardly look up or down. The ab crunch allows a good click forward and back.
Korg has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel and up and down hinge wrists, diaphragm joint, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well.
Comparison shots.
I like Ravager Thor. He looks great and has good articulation. Korg is fine I guess. I can't say I'm excited for him. I wish he didn't have such a wide stance. Thanks for viewing!
Hey Jason, hope you are well. It's been a while since this last post (great as always, by the way). Looking forward to seeing further reviews and excellent pictures. Cheers!
