Marvel Legends Series Groot & Star-Lord (Korg BAF)

Thor: Love and Thunder is just days away! I thought I should try and finish up the figures from the Korg BAF series.

Star-Lord looks really nice. On the back of the package that is. Hasbro somehow managed to mess up the figure. Notably the head sculpt. It comes as a surprise given how well they've done MCU figures in recent times. At least the body looks good. He has on a new trench coat which has quite a bit of detail on it. You can make out the various sections, straps and the stitching. I quite like the painted blue strip on the front. It gives the trench coat a bit more colour. The arms are new. They are the pinless sort. There's wrinkles and creases on the sleeves. The armour plating look to be separate pieces stuck on. The gold paint apps wasn't applied thoroughly. You can make out the brownish red underneath.

The head sculpt is poor. I'm not sure who this guy is supposed to be. From his looks I think he might make a fun drinking buddy. The facial features were done well and there's good detail for his hair.

The strap across his chest and trench coat body is removable. His inner wear being of a similar brownish red as the sleeves makes the look passable. He's wearing a "bib" which gives his inner shirt a different look from the front. It's glued together at the waist area and is not removable. The torso and legs reuses that of the GOTG Vol 2 Star-Lord. I like that they applied some paint for the boots.

I tried out some head swaps. I prefer the sculpt of the previous figures and they'll fit this new body just fine.

He does not come with a masked head which is disappointing. He looks pretty badass with one.

Accessories. He comes with his two guns. The included BAF part is the right arm of Korg.

The guns are the same ones as we've seen previously. They are mostly gunmetal in colour with some gold paint applied. I prefer the look of the previous guns which had a little more paint detail.

The guns may be carried on the pegs on his legs.

Next up Groot.

Groot is a basically a repaint of the Infinity War three-pack figure with a new head sculpt. I feel he's more worthwhile to get than Star-lord. He's been updated and looks better, and comes with some nice accessories. This Groot is lighter brown in colour. He looks less artificial. There's some green shading applied on his body. The green is lighter and blends in better than on the previous figure.

The head sculpt is where there's significant improvement. The eyes are less scary looking and the likeness is so much better. The bark texture is better as well. There's green shading applied at the top of his head. And on his head he has a couple of new shoots sprouting.

Accessories. He comes with an extra gun firing right hand, a blaster rifle and two arm branches. The included BAF part is the torso of Korg.

I think the blaster rifle is new. There's a great amount of sculpted detail on it. I wish it had some paint detail. You'll have to struggle a bit to get him to hold the rifle properly. Once done he's able to hold it pretty securely.

I really like the branch arms. I'm happy they included them. Branching limbs is part of his abilities after all. The branches have great detail on them. They are textured. The vines on them and the shoots were sculpted. The vines and shoots were painted. They fit securely in his wrists sockets and they may be used either side. The branches have swivel and hinge articulation.

Articulation

Groot has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, diaphragm joint, ball hips, swivel hinge knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

Star-lord has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, boot swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. The elbows have good range. The ab crunch loses a some of its forward range due to the bib.

Comparison shots.

Groot is a good figure. Star-lord has a poor head sculpt but a nice looking body. Thanks for viewing!
