Marvel Legends Series The Infinity Saga Obadiah Stane & Iron Monger

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Infinity Saga Obadiah Stane and Iron Monger.

Let's get Obadiah out of the way first. The body reuses the young Nick Fury suited body with the hands from Luis. They've made some paint changes to his attire. He spots a nice looking vertical striped shirt and a patterned tied. I like the look of it. He seems really fresh. I also like the silver belt buckle. I would have liked if they could have given us a larger suited body. Obadiah was quite big after all. The neck was not properly coloured with the flesh tone which is annoying. There's a good chunk of white visible. The head sculpt is excellent. It has a very good likeness. The facial features were well done. He has quite a bit of wrinkles on his forehead. The beard is too thick but he still looks okay overall. There should be a gap between the beard and the soul patch. It sit on the beard here.

Some close-ups.

He wears a gold ring on his right hand.

Accessories. He comes with a briefcase and Tony's Arc Reactor. The briefcase is plain. There is some textured detail on it and it can be opened. It cannot fit the Arc Reactor inside though.

Hasbro did an excellent job with the Arc Reactor. For something so small it has a lot of sculpted detail on it. And to top it off it has the lights painted on. Click images to enlarge.

And now the main attraction of the set, Iron Monger. Hasbro finally did it justice. He's much more bigger and massive now. Certainly more in scale. It only took about thirteen years. You know I'm really glad Hasbro has been redoing some characters and filling in the missing characters. The collection never looked better.

Iron Monger looks great. He's heavily armoured as you would expect. There's a good amount of rounded and angular plating. While most of the plating is plain, there is some detail here and there. Notably on the back where you can see some panels, bolts and rivets. It's more interesting when you look in the cracks and in between some joints. There you'll find vents, tubing and more pistons. Very nice! The gun metal colour is not as metallic looking as I would have liked but I'm okay with it. What has a more metallic look are the moving parts and joints, such as at the elbows, knees and the pistons. They have a matte chrome finish. I like that they did that so he wouldn't just be one single colour, like on the previous version. The swirly plastic spoils his otherwise clean look. The Arc Reactor looks realistic. They probably could have made it light up if they wanted to.

A close-up. The swirly plastic strikes once again on the helmet. The white eyes stand out well and he looks fierce.

A very cool feature is that the suit has movable pistons. There's a set on his back and a set for his shoulder armour.

Move his arms and the piston will move along with it. Very nice! To assist with the movement the cylindrical portion (attached on his back) has a swivel. The bar portion (attached on his arm) has a ball joint.

The piston has a limit. Extend too far and the bar portion will come out. It can be put back easily so not to worry about it if it happens.

Here's the pistons for his shoulder armour in use. They have similar moving parts to allow for arm articulation. Iron Monger can raise his arms that much as you see below before the shoulder armour or the piston dislodges.

The whole shoulder armour mechanism can be removed if you find it too bothersome.

Accessories. He comes with an extra set of open hands, a rocket launcher, a strip of used ammo casings, a blast effect and a smoke effect piece.

The inside of his hands has a circular design. I don't think he had repulsors. Were they for light? I have to go rewatch Iron Man.

The rocket launcher is actually supposed to come out of his back. We get it as a separate piece here which I don't mind at all. It can be attached to either of the pistons at his shoulders.

Iron Monger has a good deal of weaponry on him. On his left forearm is a mini gatling gun. It has the  ammo belt already loaded. I like that the tip of the ammo was painted gold. It matches the casings. There's a tiny red dot just above the gun. It's probably to represent a laser scope. It's just a dot but I love that they did that.

The blast effect of course fits into the barrel. The strips of casing attaches at the side. The casings are not lined up evenly. Some are bunched and lined up at different angles. And they fall away at the end. Very nice!

The smoke effect piece is darker at the peg side of it and gradually changes to an off white colour. It fits into the gatling gun. You'll notice a hole in the front. It's so you can peg in the blast effect piece so the gun will be firing and smoking at the same time. Very nice!

(I missed taking a pic of the combination and will update at a later time.)

On his left arm he has a missile launcher. I like that they painted the tips of the missiles.

Articulation

Iron Monger has a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint waist, ball hips, thigh swivel, knee hinge and ankle hinge and pivot. He can only look up and down just a little bit. Head rotation is restricted by his suit. He can only turn his head about forty-five degrees each side. The elbows bend a little less than 90 degrees. The ball joint waist will allow about 30 degrees bend all sides. He can raise his legs quite high, just that they will be slanted. The thigh swivel turns about 90 degrees each direction. The knees bend about 90 degrees. There's not much range for the ankle articulation.

Obadiah has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel, hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

This is a great set! I love the size and bulk of the Iron Monger. The articulation is decent too. Thanks for viewing!
