DC Multiverse (McFarlane Toys) Batman & Superman

A new line of DC figures by McFarlane Toys has arrived. Here's a look at the comic versions of Batman and Superman.

A collectible card is included. Batman's is the cover of Detective Comics #1000. Cool!

There's no short description or bio on the back of the package. Instead it's on the back of the card. What I like best is that the source where the figure is based on is listed. This is especially helpful to someone like me who hardly reads comics nowadays but still enjoy the toys.

I always dread whenever a big toy line like DC Multiverse gets taken over by another company. If the line is done well it would probably mean having to collect the entire line all over again. Fortunately for me there's little chance of that happening this time round based on what's released so far. Then there's the scale. McFarlane's DC figures are in 7" scale. My collection is mainly in the 3.75" and 6" scale. Still I'll be picking up the odd figure here and there.

Any new line will want to start with some A-listers. For DC you don't get any bigger than Batman and Superman. Batman's look is based from Detective Comics #1000. Glad the trunks are back! Figure wise for me it's been awhile. Batman looks out of proportion. I feel the head is too small. I do like his narrow eyes and the stern expression. The look is spot on and it feels like he's staring at you. I don't like the look of his torso. The way the upper half looks and sits on the abs area reminds me of a bobble head figure. The side of his costume has some textured detail. The belt was stuck on and has some nice sculpted detail on it. I really love the cape. How it's flowy and spread out like that. It's great for action poses. The cape weighs him back and he needs to

Here's a close-up of his face. Love his expression.

Accessories. He comes with a batarang, a grapple gun and a base. The batarang to me seems rather thick. He's able to hold it well though. I would have liked if they included a pair of fists.

Next up Superman.

The card which comes with Superman is of Action Comics #1000.

Superman too has his trunks! The classic look's the best! Lol. Superman has some proportion issues. In his case his head seems a bit big. I don't know about you but he seems a bit old, like a middle-aged guy. I would have liked if he had a younger appearance. At least he looks pleasant enough. There's good detail in the hair. The curl is there and all. The torso looks a little top heavy. I'm not as annoyed at the torso joint area as I am with Batman. I think the shape of the torso looks better here. I like how big the S shield is. Metallic paint was used for the red areas of the S shield. It makes it stand out even more. I love the cape. It's windswept and it looks great in action poses and even when just standing there. Heroic like. Nice! It weighs him back though and he needs to lean forward in order to stand.

A close-up of his face. Does he look middle aged to you?

Accessories. He comes with a right gripping hand, a left fist, a stand and base. I would have preferred if we had come with two fists. With no other accessories it makes little sense for a gripping hand.

The stand is quite wobbly but it's able to do its job. The moving parts are tight and ratcheted. They should last longer than those hinge types. The claw needs to be opened to near maximum in order to grip the figure at the waist. When closed the gap in the claw is too big to grip the leg. Even if it could the stand would most likely collapse.

The claw is unable to face all the way up like with the old DCUC stand.

What it can do is face down so we can still put Superman in a horizontal flying pose.

Articulation

Batman has a dumbbell join neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joint with up and down movement, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, revolver type joint wrists, ball joint torso, ball joint waist, peg hinge hips, thigh swivel at the hips, double jointed knees, revolver type ankles and toe hinge. He can look up and down decently and is able to tilt his head. As his cape drapes over his shoulders he's unable to raise his arms fully without it looking awkward.

Superman has a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joint with up and down movement, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, revolver type joint wrists, ball joint torso, ball joint waist, peg hinge hips, thigh swivel at the hips, double jointed knees, revolver type ankles and toe hinge. He can look down decently. He can only look up just a bit, not enough to see where he's going when he's flying (refer to the pic above). There's not as much thigh swivel as compared to Batman. The leg can only be turned just a bit.

How far they can bend forward is as shown below. I would have liked if they could raise their legs higher.

And here's to better show you how the butterfly joints work.

Some action shots.

Comparison shots. Majority of the figures I have are by Mattel. Though I did manage to find some by DC Direct / DC Collectibles.

Both are decent figures. Head size needs to be worked on. I would also like if they could include more parts and accessories. Thanks for viewing!
