Marvel Legends Series Black Panther & Erik Killmoger (Okoye BAF)

Looks like my hiatus is over. Here I was thinking to restart next year but the arrival of the Okoye BAF series prompted me to get off my lazy ass. Here's a look at Black Panther and Erik Killmonger from the Okoye series.

New movie new figure. And an all new figure at that. Yup Black Panther has an all new sculpt. I like the look and proportions on this one. The Civil War version was a little top heavy for my liking. The head sculpt is interesting. I'm not sure if you are able to make it out but the nose area has the shape of a big cat's nose. An in built breathing apparatus perhaps. The silver lines on his mask form the shape of a cat mask. I'm not too fond it. There's great sculpted detail all round. The lines were all sculpted and his whole suit is textured. The silver paint was well applied and I like that they painted the claws. There are claws at his feet as well. They were however not painted which I think is for the better.

Comparison with the Civil War version. They are of the same height. The mid section of this version looks better.

I'm not familiar with Erik Killmonger so I went and "Googled". He does not wear a suit like this in the comics so this was made for the movies. I'm reading that it's called the "Golden Jaguar" suit. I'll just go along with that. The figure is all new and is of a different sculpt than Black Panther. Again there's great sculpted detail all round. The suit has a shiny gold tinged black colour and if you look closely, you can make out black spots. (Click images to enlarge.) No wonder it's called the Golden Jaguar suit. The gold paint was well applied. The claws at his hands and feet were painted. They also painted some of the raised bumps on his mask. Very nice!

Erik Killmonger and Black Panther are of similar height and build. Erik Killmonger has a more muscle sculpted in the suit. Black Panther's looks more padded.

Accessories

Black Panther comes with an unmasked head and a pair of fists. The BAF piece is the head of Okoye.

Erik Killmonger comers with a pair of gripping hands, a blade and a short spear like weapon. The BAF part is the left leg of Okoye.

The unmasked head has a decent likeness to how he appears in the movie but it's still not quite there yet for me. Something is off. And I think the size is a little too small. I got a poor piece. The moustache portion is off. It's uneven and there's a noticeable gap on his right. Grrr... That's something for you to look out for.

Comparing the unmasked head sculpts. Both have their own appeal.

There's great sculpted detail on Erik Killmonger's. I especially like the wrapped handles and sections of the spear thingy. I also love the paint detail on the spear. He can hold his weapons quite well. The spear is a little loose in his hand though.

The gripping hands may be used with Black Panther. Some modification is required but once done we can have him hold some stuff as well.

Articulation

Black Panther has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joint, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down very well. I love that they gave him the butterfly joints. They make for better poses. The ab crunch allows one and a half clicks forward and one click back.

Erik Killmonger has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joint, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down well. The butterfly joint keeps springing back out when I try to use them. Will have to look into it.

Comparison shots.

Both great figures. There's great detail and I like that they have butterfly joints. Thanks for viewing!
