Star Wars The Black Series 6" Rey (Jakku) & BB-8

Doh, Rey, B. Here's a look at the Black Series 6" Rey & BB-8.

Rey is based on her appearance on the planet Jakku. She's dressed in desert garb. Her attire comprises of a loose tunic, shorts, a long piece of cloth, wrappings for her arms and boots. There's great sculpted detail for her attire. There's lots of folded material. Her white tunic is textured and has a bit of shading. Her overall look is too clean though and I would have liked if there was some wash, especially on the tan areas. She wears a belt and attached to it is a pouch. Her boots have good detail and are textured. There's something off about her head sculpt. I think it's overly rounded. She has a motherly look about her. The paint for her facial details were well applied. There's also a bit of redness at her cheeks. She has a sweaty appearance  due to the shiny brown used for her hair and the loose strands hanging down the side of her face. Her hair has good detail. I can imagine the three buns becoming a thing like Princess Leia's two.

Accessories. She comes with a staff. It has good detail and has many segments to it. It's pretty sturdy but you should still be careful with it. I noticed a stress mark on mine. There's some paint apps for the strapping and the sling.

The sling is rather stiff. You can have her carry it on her shoulder by stretching it but you risk scrapping paint off.

Also included is BB-8! This is something of a bonus which makes this figure very worthwhile. This cute little droid was very well sculpted and has great detail. The design is different on all sides of its body. There's a good amount of paint apps. It's not the best but at least it's there. BB-8 is weighted at the bottom. If you lay him down on his side it'll spring back up. Very cool! The head was well sculpted. Again there's a good amount of paint apps, and also line work. There's quite a bit of smudging hence the head appears more dirty than the body. The head can be rotated and moved around thanks to ball joints at the neck and in the body.

Articulation. She's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint waist, ball hips, thigh swivel, swivel hinge knees and ankle hinge and pivot. She can look up and down well. Her attire hinders her from lifting her legs and extending her left leg to the side.

Comparison shots.

Love the BB-8. Rey not so much. Thanks for viewing!

The good folks at UbreakiFix did the work for us, and while this is the toy version, I think we can assume the bigger movie version operates on similar lines. For the record, I think both the movie BB-8 and the toy are very cute and a worthy companion (successor?) to R2-D2 - which I think has a place in all geeky hearts. buybb8droid.com
