Gundam Docks at Singapore

Docking complete! The Gundam Docks at Singapore exhibition is now on till 28 June 2015 at Takashimaya Square, B2 and Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza. The event is held in celebration of the 35th anniversary of GUNDAM model kit and in conjunction with Singapore’s Golden Jubilee I dropped by early today for a look.

When I reached a long queued had already formed. The queue was for the Limited Edition RX-78-2 Gundam SG50 version and it stretched at least half way round the B2 atrium. I thought I would have to pass on the kit but fortunately I spotted a friend who helped me get one.

Here's the  RX-78-2 Gundam SG50 version. Singapore is celebrating her 50th year of Independence this year, hence the SG50. This kit is a High Grade (HG) one and is in the 1/444 scale. The colours are mostly red and white. On his chest is the SG50 logo and on his shield is a Merlion crest with Singapore's name pasted on it. Personally I would have preferred if it were a Master Grade (MG) kit. There was still quite a lot of stock when I left. Despite that I suggest heading down as soon as possible to secure one if you want it. This kit retails for $38.95.

There were several customed SG50 Gundams in various scales on display. You can see those in the gallery. The link bottom of the page.

Various Gundam SG50 merchandise are available as well. They include files, key-chains and mugs. Their prices range from $8 - $18.

The exclusive SG50 Gundam kit was designed by Kunio Okawara, the first mechanical designer in Japan. He will be here in Singapore and you can catch him this Saturday, 6 June 2015 at 3pm at the stage where he'll have a talk show and an autograph session. Only 100 Autograph Passes are available and they have already been fully redeemed.

A Kunio Okawara Gallery was set up. In it you can see various posters, prints and Gundam kits.

Here's a sample of some of the prints you can see.

Another highlight of the exhibition is the showcase of various Perfect Grade Gundams. I spent some time viewing them as I have never owned a Perfect Grade kit due to their cost.

I found the Strict-G section interesting. They have various Gundam merchandise by various brands such as Porter and Mastermind Japan. There are bags, jackets and shades and so on. I don't have the budget for them though.

A unique item is this Gunpla hangar with model kit parts on it. It is a Limited-Time item and is sold in a set with a T-shirt.

Here's a look at some other areas of the exhibition. There's a Tamashii Nations section and a Bandai Namco booth where you can try out Gundam Breaker 2 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs Full Boost.

There's lots and lots of stuff to buy, some with good discounts too. The following are some of the featured items.

Don't forget to head to level 1 Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza to check out the 6 metre tall statues of the RX-78-2 Gundam and Zaku. There's also two rows of Zaku II with various weapons and poses lined up. I'm guessing that's where the celebrities will make their entrance. Speaking of which you can catch Japanese band BACK-ON and seiyuus from Gundam Build Fighters Try on 20 June 2015.

These two are just awesome to see! If you can't visit Gundam Front Tokyo this would be the next best thing.

You can view the gallery here.

I think the exhibition is worth a visit. Do head down toTakashimaya and check it out for yourself!

Thanks for viewing!
