Marvel Legends Series Retro Card Sandman

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Series Retro cardback Sandman.

I had a feeling I wouldn't like this figure and I was right. And it's because of his size. Actually I think the size is accurate but he's usually quite tall and bulkier in the comics, and this is just not doing it for me. The BAF figure is much too big. My preferred figure of Sandman is still the Toy Biz Spider-man Classics version. This Sandman reuses the Netflix Luke Cage body. One difference are the arms. The sleeves are now rolled up at the forearm. The print for his shirt was well done. His pants are of a dark tan colour and his shoes are black in colour.

The head sculpt is good. He looks really fierce. He's angry and snarling with gritted teeth. The teeth are well done and I like that they painted in some gums for him. He's a little cross-eyed which is annoying. They always get Sandman's hair right. It's textured and has the deep lines.

The accessories are what attracted me to pick this figure up. He comes with an alternate half sandy head, two sand forearm covers, a sand mace and a sand fist.

The alternate head is cool. Someone took a whack at him and he got deformed. The sandy portion is textured and has great sculpted detail. There's some brown shading over the pale brown which makes it really nice looking. For someone who sustained some damage he looks pretty relaxed. Not that he's actually damaged. He'll probably just reform. I guess it's nothing to him hence his calm look. Still I think an angry expression is more suited here.

You know what? I did not take a shot of what you probably want to see. And that is sticking an arm through the hole of his head... I'll get round to it tomorrow. It's 3am (again...) and I'm typing this from bed. In the mean time do check out the other shots.

UPDATE 645pm.

As promised. Here are some shots of Spidey punching through his face. It looks a little off as the hole is not on his face. It's to the side. Still it's a nice idea.

The sand covers for the forearms is a nice touch. The sand parts will not look as good if we simply stuck them in the wrist sockets. The covers are labelled L and R so you won't mix them up. When putting them on you'll want to rotate them till you find the sweet spot so that the wrist socket will be as close to the opening as possible. After that you can insert the sand mace and hand. The mace may be used on the left side as well. The sand parts do not have a hinge. They only have swivel for articulation. All of the sand parts are textured and have great sculpted detail. The colours are great too. They are a mixture of brown and pale brown.

You can use the normal fists with the sand forearm covers.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

Comparison shots.

This is just an okay figure for me. I don't like the size of it. I do like the accessories. Thanks for viewing!
