GIJoe Classified Series Gabriel "Barbecue" Kelly

What's summer without some Barbecue. Ba dum tsshhh...

Barbecue is not a really wanted character for me. But since he's here my as well add him to the team. His main role as you probably know is a firefighter. Hence the suit and the firefighting equipment he comes with. His look is very much like the original. I like the tweaks they did. Such as making the torso section of his suit an orangey red and also the elbow and knee pads. The suit doesn't look as plain in this way. Then there's the large pouches at his waist, and strap and holster at his thighs where he can store some of his gear. Nice. The body largely reuses Destro's body. The arms and the overlay top is new. The armband and the pouch on his right and left arms respectively were sculpted. As are the gloves at his forearms. There are dents, nicks and scuff marks on the torso section of his suit. He's likely seen plenty of action.

The helmet looks great. There's nice bits of detail all round. I really like the shiny gun metal on the front. It contrasts very well against the black base. The visor is gloss black which makes it realistic. There's a tube on the left side. It's likely a breathing tube.

His breathing apparatus is on the front of his suit. There's a small painted gauge on the oxygen canister. Below that are some very long looking pouches.

Accessories. He comes with a backpack, a large axe, a hand axe, a fire extinguisher gun and a hose. I like that they gave the axes some silver paint detail. They look much better with it. There are some spikes on the handle of the hand axe.

The backpack has several canisters on it. They likely contain various fire retardant substances. There are some labels on the centre canister. I can't really make out what they are saying though. There's nice sculpted detail for the lower portion of the backpack. It has several knobs and tubes on it. There's a peg which extends out from it's bottom left where you can attach the hose. One thing about the backpack is that it the lower portion sticks out a little far from his back.

The large axe may be stored on his backpack. The slot for it is a very tight fit. You can see from the pic above that the axe is a little warped because of it. The axe also will pop out easily. The hand axe may clipped on his right leg. I prefer to clip the handle rather than the head. And here you can see the well painted design of his armband.

The hose is textured and can be attached securely to both the backpack and the extinguisher gun. The hose while flexible is still quite stiff and may cause the gun position to move when posed.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge upper neck, ball joint lower neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel and up and down hinge wrists, ab crunch, ball joint waist, ball hips with drop down hinge, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, boot swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down quite well. For looking down you'll need to tuck his head into the grey area of his suit. The ab crunch is restricted by his suit. He can only bend forward and back just a bit. I've tried to show you how much bend there is below.

Now for the action shots.

Comparison shots.

Nice figure. Thanks for viewing!

  1. Excited for this guy even though I have no connection to him as a character. Love the overall look and the figure seems well executed.

Thanks for the review! Been following your blog for a while and always appreciate your pics and words - easily one of my top places to get a good first look at a figure. Keep up the good work!

  3. So given my name you can probably guess that I'm pretty excited for Barbecue. Of course, as a kid I thought he used a small handheld flamethrower which seemed pretty incredible. I still like him, though, and giving him a few different axes is a nice touch.

  4. Cool looking figure. Though I never figured out how he would quite fit into combat, the uniform was always bad ass. Glad they made him.
