I'm not excited for Thunderbird so let's get him out of the way first. At first glance he seems like a decent figure. When you put him together with others that's where he'll seem off. He needs more size and bulk. Another gripe I have is that his head sits a little high. The head sculpt is nice. He has quite a stern expression which suits him. There's good detail for his hair. I would have preferred it to be neutral and not windswept. The body reuses the Wonder Man body. The paint apps for the design of his costume is good. The red on his chest just needs too be stronger to match the red on other areas. The belt, bracelets and tassels are separate pieces. The boot tassels are loose and tend to drop down to his ankles when posing him.
Thunderbird does not come with any accessories...
Here's a close-up of his face.
Did a head swap with Warpath. It's small but I think Warpath looks pretty good with Thunderbird's head. I'm just now noticing Warpath is more tanned than Thunderbird.
Now for the main attraction of this two-pack, Storm in her original X-men costume. She looks great! I'm liking the sculpt, size and proportions. The body is all new. Her costume was actually sculpted on, even the bracers. Very nice! Her costume is leather like and smooth. There's only just a few creases to be seen at her chest area. It's also very shiny, notably the upper torso, boots and cape. The mid-section is less so. Her legs are the new pinless sort. She's wearing heels. She's able to stand straight quite easily without the cape. With the cape on she'll need to lean forward a bit. I like the look of her cape. It has a nice shape to it. There's some bleeding for the yellow outline. She has a nice head sculpt. She looks like she stepped right out of the comic book. Her hair seems high but that's how it's supposed to be. It has good detail and I like that it's got some shading in it.
Here's how she looks without her cape.
A close-up of her head. Her headband will need some adjustment..
Accessories. She comes with an alternate head, a pair of fist, lightning effects hands and a wind swept cape.
I like the alternate head. You can clearly see that she's using her abilities. She has a very focused look. And with her hair being windswept like that you'll want to stay out her way. Really nice! One thing about this head is that the fit on the neck peg is a little loose and it tends to tilt to her left.
Tried out her a few head swaps.
The lightning effect hands are cool. One thing is that the lightning actually runs lower down her fingers and appear like bumps. It looks like she hurt herself using her abilities.
Putting it all together. You can just imagine a storm brewing just looking at her. Great stuff!
Articulation
Thunderbird has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He cannot look up much due to his hair.
Storm has a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ball joint torso, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. With the neutral head she cannot look up due to her hair. With the powering up head she is able to look up decently. She can look down fine with either head. Head rotation is hindered. She cannot lift her arms all the up with her cape on. The elbows can bend a little more than ninety degrees. The torso joint allows decent bend to the back and sides. She can only bend forward just a little. Due to the heels and cape she cannot do much ground poses.
Comparison shots.
Storm is a great figure! She looks good and I like all the parts she comes with. Thunderbird is meh. Thanks for viewing!
So glad they finally made this Storm. Been a long time coming.
ReplyDeleteThe joints not too tight, I trust?
ReplyDelete@Tom Boy - Sorry for the late reply. The joints on Thunderbird are tight. With Storm it's fine.
ReplyDeleteHow's this storm compared to the punk storm (apocalypse wave)?
