Something from last year, the Jurassic World Amber Collection Dr Ian Malcolm.
I like the "Jurassic" movies. But due to budget reasons I have had to pass on a lot of the dinosaurs and figures. This line being in a larger scale it's a bit more justifiable. One, because I can have them interact with more similar sized characters from other properties. And two, I could use more civilian type figures. This line is somewhere in between the 6" and 7" scale. You'll get a better idea with the comparison shots below.
Dr. Ian Malcolm looks pretty good. There's a decent likeness. I love the hair. Love the shape and detail of it. He's wearing some tinted glasses. They are translucent and you can still make out his eyes. They were stuck on. I was hoping they would be removable like with some Mattel WWE figures. He wears a pendant around his neck and is dressed in a black shirt and black pants as seen in Jurassic Park. There's a good amount of detail on his attire. You can make out the pockets, buttons and seams. And there's quite a bit of wrinkles. I like that they painted his belt buckle and the rings on his shoes.
A close-up of his face. As mentioned you can make out his eyes through his glasses.
He wears a ring on his right hand. It's sculpted on. The blue paint did not quite hit the mark but I'm okay with it.
Accessories. He comes with a right open hand, a gripping left hand for the glass, a glass of water, a lighted light flare and a translucent amber base. I'm sure you've watched Jurassic Park and know that the accessories feature in the film.
I'm not sure if you can make it out but there's actually ripples in the glass of water. Nice! And here you can see the nice painted detail on his watch.
Articulation. He's got a dumbbell joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrist, ball joint torso, waist rotation, peg hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle swivel and hinge. He can only look up and down just a tiny bit. He can bend forward and tilt his body a little bit. There's more bend when bending backwards. Due to the pants sculpt the ankle hinge can hardly be used.
Comparison shots. He stands at about 6.5". He's taller than Marvel Legends figures. He's more in scale with DC Multiverse, both Mattel's and McFarlane.
Dr Ian Malcolm is a decent figure. The scale is bigger than I would have liked but that won't stop me from picking up more. I do hope they release more figures. Thanks for viewing!
