S.H.Figuarts Tony Stark (Iron Man)

Another event is upcoming. I thought I better get in a toy post first. Here's a look at the S.H.Figuarts Tony Stark.

Tony Stark is based on his appearance from Iron Man 3. That was the last time we saw him with the arc reactor still in his chest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And this might be the last figure we see of him with it in his chest too. The arc reactor was actually sculpted. The arc reactor is slightly raised underneath his shirt. The blue portion was painted with metallic paint. It doesn't strike me as illumination. The darker blue splotch comes across as a stain to me. There's great detail on his attire. His shirt is textured on the top, back and on the sides. There's also lots of wrinkles. The "trunks" portion of his trousers was made of a flexible, rubbery material. It allows for better leg articulation. The trouser legs have nice wrinkle detail. The head sculpt is great. There's a good likeness to how he appeared in the movie. His eyes were painted okay. His facial head looks kinda fuzzy when viewed up close but fine when viewed from a distance. The hair has great detail and has bronze highlights.

Comparison with the Marvel Legends Civil War 3-pack Tony Stark head sculpt. I would say the S.H.Figuarts one is better but both have their appeal.

Accessories. He comes with two extra sets of interchangeable hands. One set are gripping hands and the other pair has four fingers extended with the thumb tucked in. They are meant for recreating that scene where he tests out summoning the components of the Mark 42 for the first time. But we can also use them in running poses and for slapping someone.

He also comes with some Mark 42 parts which you can swap in. The parts have nice sculpted detail. I like what they've done for the inside and at the back of the parts. They sculpted a bit of his forearms and trousers on the parts which can be seen from the back view. Very nice! I also like the metallic paint used. I love the shine.

Also included is the Power Stage diorama. This is a first release bonus included with the figure. If you want it, it's best you pick up the figure now while it's still available. The Stage consists of several parts which you peg together. The floor is textured. I would have liked if the ring around the central platform were able to light up.

Articulation. He's got a dumbbell joint neck, ball joint lower neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joint, revolver joint elbows, revolver joint wrists, ball joint torso, ball joint waist, ball hips, a bit of thigh swivel, revolver joint type knees, ankle hinge and pivot, and toe hinge. He can look up and down decently using both the neck joints. The torso joint has a pretty good range of motion. Ankle articulation is limited by his trousers.

For the armour pieces the wrists only have swivel. The feet have ankle hinge and pivot, and toe hinge. The ankle hinge are very loose on the parts I got and he has a little trouble standing.

Comparison shots. He's a little too small to use with Marvel Legends.

Great figure! Thanks for viewing!

  2. S.H.Figuarts Tony Stark which you are reviewing is bootleg, isn't it?

  3. @Kakashi - It should be original. Got it from the same place I've been getting my stuff for years. They have always sold original goods.
