There's nothing like a good book. The one which has taken up most of my time of late is full of awesomeness. I'm talking about the SDCC 2015 Book of the Vishanti! Breaking out Dr Strange's arch-nemesis first, Dormmamu.
The package is designed like a big hard covered book. The surface has a textured appearance and the print is neat. There's a cardboard strip protecting the sides. I like that it is shorter than some previous SDCC Marvel Legends exclusives. It helps with the shipping cost.
Inside there are pages of ancient text. I love the old style writing and illustrations. The text describes journeying into the Astral Plane and who you might encounter. I'll show you more from character to character.
The figures come packed in a flocked plastic tray. The tray has a a nice velvet like appearance however, bits of the material are coming off and sticking on the figures. The red bits can be rubbed off but you might want to remove the figures and keep them separate just in case.
The Lord of the Dark Dimension makes his first appearance in Marvel Legends form. Dormmamu is in his modern look which I prefer over his classic purple costume. His head is a ball of fire which was well sculpted with rising flames. It was made with translucent plastic. A clear orange was applied in the front to give it a more fiery effect. It also helps bring out the flames detail. His face is fully black. I like the fiery eyes and mouth. The body uses the Terrax body with new hands. At first I thought they are the Sabretooth hands but they are not. These have spikes on the back of them. The forearms and hands are translucent plastic which is interesting. The shoulder and chest armour is a separate piece and is removable. The belt and "skirt" piece was stuck on. There is a little too much black shading on the red "skirt" area for my liking. It looks like someone took it and rubbed it on the floor. The lower legs have metallic purplish grey armour fitted on. He is supposed to be wearing full armour but the mid section here is clearly his abs. It should follow the pattern as on the "skirt". He still looks great though. The colours are awesome. I love the metallic purple. Very nice!
Check out the back of the "skirt". There's a lot of sculpted detail and there's ancient symbols inscribed in it. Great stuff!
Close-up of his face. The black paint wasn't applied well. Bubbles are visible but I don't mind considering his face is burning hot. Here you can also the spikes on the back of his hands.
Accessories. He comes with two purple flaming skulls. They are the same sculpt as Ghost Rider's head. It takes some fiddling to have him hold them properly.
The skull can fit onto Ghost Rider's body if you want.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can't look up but he can look down a bit. The shoulder armour prevents him from lifting his arms straight up. He won't be able to move around much as the "skirt" section heavily restricts leg articulation. The leg armour is flexible enough to allow good use of the ankle hinge.
Comparison shots. I like how he towers over normal sized characters.
Great figure for display. The articulation problems is a downer. Thanks for viewing!
We love Dormmamu!
ReplyDeleteDormammu looks really cool. Is the ab crunch joint loose on yours? I hear it may be a problem with other figures. Thank you!
