"Tonight's forecast, a freeze is coming." I know, I know. I can hear the groans...
The figures have been great in this line and Mr Freeze is no different. He looks pretty accurate to how he appeared in the show. His legs seem a little too long but that's how he was. The black areas of his body on my figure has some scuff marks which I'm not too pleased about. The paint apps are poor. The main problem is the black lines on the blue areas. There are etched lines in the suit and the paint deviates from it.
The transparent dome of his helmet is removable. You can get a better look at his head sculpt here. I think they did a great job with it.
Accessories. He comes with his freeze gun, two extra pairs of interchangeable hands, four "insect" legs and a base. I would have liked if his freeze gun had a bit of paint detail.
The following is his left gripping hand. The opening is too narrow to hold his gun. From the position of his thumb, I'm thinking it's for him to press a remote or something.
Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, mid-torso rotation, peg hinge hips, knee hinge, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up decently. There's not much bend at the elbows and he cannot raise his legs much. The joints are very stiff so do take care when trying to move them.
In the TNBA episode "Cold Comfort" of which this figure is based on, we learnt that Mr Freeze"s body had deteriorated and only his head was left. He used a mechanical body to move around. He could also move around with "insect" legs which were attached to his head capsule. I use the term "insect" as that was the term Kenner used when they made their figure back then.
The head capsule detaches easily from the body. Underneath you'll find holes where you attach the insect legs. It can be quite tricky. Do take care when doing so as you can stress the legs or worse, break them.
Comparison shots. He stands taller than Batman which is accurate for the series. He is wearing a mechanical body after all.
Good figure. I love that they included the insect legs bit. Thanks for viewing!
Very cool and great pics as always. I just wish they would revisit the 5 inch line again.
ReplyDeleteThe Insect Body Mr. Freeze (from Kenner) is one of the best of the original line, and quite frankly one of the best action figures ever made. It is perfect in it's simplicity.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks like a nice modern update but other than the larger scale I can't say it really improved on the original enough to make me need it.
@ Hobgoblin - Thanks
ReplyDelete@ Eric - Agree with you on the Kenner Mr Freeze. If only it had the short legs as well which could fit in his chest. It would be perfect.
