I remember seeing Death's Head in the UK Transformers comics. He has one of the most unique looks with the horns and the chin spikes. He kinda looks like a bull ready to charge. We just need some steam from his nostrils to complete the look. He had various facial expressions which at times made him comical. No joking around with him though as he's pretty badass. He killed Shockwave and even tried to take on Unicron. Don't know what happened to him after that. I did a quick search. Didn't know he was back in the Marvel Universe. I'll have to go read those issues if I can find them.
This freelance peacekeeping agent is a bit of a mixed bag. I'll start with the good stuff first. The head sculpt is superb. I think they captured his likeness very well. There's subtle lines above his eyes giving him the angry eyebrows look. The horns are pretty stiff while the chin spikes are soft. My figure is missing the red paint in his right eye. It's annoying. Fortunately it's not too noticeable. The body largely reuses parts of Colossus. He's got new hands and boots. He's got lots of great detail. The chest covering and the samurai type skirt are separate pieces. They have holes, knocks, dents and slash marks on them. It's the same with his boots. He wears spikes on the back of his hands and they too have seen heavy use. The cape is a nice piece. It's textured and has this nice lines pattern. I would have liked if it were torn and tattered to match his battle worn armour. The cape is quite heavy for him and will weigh him back. A good thing that it's long so he can lean on it. The paint is good overall. He's got shiny paint on his body and armour. It's hard to make out in the pics but the yellow on his chest covering is darker than that on his ab area.

Now for the not so good part. The chest coverings and cape is one separate piece and it is removable. Underneath you'll find two holes on his chest and on his back. I believe the cape piece was intended to have pegs so it'll peg in and stay on the body.
As there are no pegs the piece is loose on his body. With the cape weighing it back, the chest covering will get raised. It kinda looks like his wearing a bib. As a temporary solution I've used Blu-tac to try and secure the piece to the body. It's not very effective as you'll see in the pics.
Accessories. He comes with a mace, axe and buckler. They were all made with soft, flexible plastic. The axe and buckler have seen plenty use. They have slash marks, scratches and dents in them. The buckler can be used to store his weapons. (see below) They don't fit well and tend to drop out though. There are two square slots on his cape. The buckler can be attached to it by fitting the clip into the slots. He'll then be able to carry all his gear.
Here's how it looks from the back.
And from the front. I would have liked if he came with a big gun as well. That would really complete his look.
*UPDATE
Thanks to Mauricio Dantas for pointing this out. His hands can be removed and the weapons can be inserted into the wrists holes like in the comics. Very cool!
He can of course use the buckler by clipping it on his forearm.
Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle swivel and hinge. Lifting his legs up will cause the skirt piece to get raised and it'll cover his ab area. He's tough to pose without the use of a base and keeps falling over.
Comparison shots.
Don't know where I put my commander class Shockwave... Anyway that scale is too small for use with Death's Head. The deluxe FOC Shockwave I think is a better size if you wanted them to battle each other.
A friend suggested trying him out with the Custom Robot Shockwave. The scale is better. They are about the same size.
This is a good figure. The loose cape piece is bothersome and posing him is a pain but it shouldn't stop you from picking up this cool character. We get a green version with improvements next time, yes? Thanks for viewing!
He looks great. But since I am not familiar with the character I will not be getting him.
ReplyDeleteHe'd look great with Cyclonus and Scourge too. He looks like he'd fit well with Deluxe Transformers. He has featured in all the winners for me, Transformers, the Marvel Universe and even Doctor Who, I am excited about this guy. A pity about the cape/armor and having no gun is a definite minus. He made a recent return to comics in a Marvel UK character limited series a month or two ago. There's actually a bit to read following him, his origin Graphic Novel was fun. He looks fun, but flawed, but that head sculpt and Shield make it work very well. It would be cool if they considered a 12" version as he was as big as a Transformer once. Nicely done picking him up.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the axe and the mace can be attached to its wrist holes, as seen on the comics. Have you tried this?
ReplyDelete@ Mauricio - Good eye! Yup they can be attached to the wrist holes. Added a couple of pics above. Thanks for pointing it out!
ReplyDeleteGlad to finally get this guy released.
