Marvel Select has released a number of great figures of late. Venom here looks to be the best one yet.
This Venom figure is simply awesome. It would have been even better if he had more bulk. There's great detail on the body. There's even a little bump on the back of his hands for where he shoots his webbing from. The symbiote costume has a flowy texture kind of look and you can also make out Eddie Brock's veins. The paint is decent on my figure. He's largely painted in black with a tinge of blue. Though there may be some white paint splotches on the backside, I consider myself lucky. I have a friend whose figure has big splotches of white paint all over the back.
The best thing about this figure is he comes with a number of interchangeable parts. There are three different heads and three pairs of interchangeable hands. There's also a "Madness backpack" and additional forearms which attach to his normal ones. With all this we can display him to our preferred look.
All three heads were well sculpted and have great detail on them. The teeth especially were well done. There's good paint detail too. I never liked the tongue look. I felt it took something away from him. I mean he's still fearsome and all but somehow just not as much. And at times he looked silly. I think just having the wide mouth and protruding sharp teeth is enough. Luckily for me that look can be achieved as the tongue is removeable. The inside of his mouth is painted red so it won't look like he lost it.
I like the Mcfarlane look the best. The headsculpt of it is superb. I love that sinister smile.
The Eddie Brock head is the largest of the three and is a little oversized. The symbiote in mid transformation effect is cool but I would have preferred if we had gotten a full Eddie Brock head instead.
The headsculpt of Eddie Brock is good. I especially like the hair. I think the paint used for his skin is too thick.
Here's Venom with the "Madness backpack" and attachments. There was a story "Venom the Madness" where Eddie Brock kept hearing voices and during a fight, got tossed into some liquid and then had all these extra heads and limbs pop out. This look is based on that appearance. It's very cool that we have the option of this look too. All the heads on the "pack" are just as detailed and they have articulation too. The four largest heads are on ball joints. Also the arms have bicep swivel, hinge elbows and wrist swivel. You can swap the hands on it as well.
The "pack" fits snugly on his back. It causes him to fall backwards though.
Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, single hinge elbows, wrist swivel, torso pivot, waist rotation, peg hinge hips, thigh swivel, single hinge knees and ankle hinge. There's not much movement you can get from the torso pivot. And he really needs to have ankle pivot.
Some comparison shots. He stands about a head taller than the Spider-man Classics Venom. He's too tall to fit in with Marvel Legends. It's not that bad. We can always put him in a crouching position.
Venom is a great, fun figure. It's highly recommended. Thanks for viewing!
