Marvel Legends Series Shang Chi (Demogoblin BAF)

Here's a look at the Marvel Legends Shang Chi.

Shang Chi here is in his classic look minus the top portion of his gi which I don't mind not having. Unless made of soft goods it would probably have restricted the articulation anyway. This works out better. The body reuses the upper torso of the Sunfire body. The nipples were actually painted on which we don't see too often. The legs are new. The tight material at the thigh area and the loose leg openings are a mismatch for what should be a loose fitting pair of pants. It looks a little awkward but I don't mind it. His feet are quite high and big. It's especially noticeable when viewed from the side. Again I don't mind it. It's either this or the slipper and cankles look we got with Kraven. I think he's got a great head sculpt. I like the look. I also like the detail and shape of his hair and the long headband. He is a little cross-eyed which I'm quite annoyed about. I hope you have better luck with your figure.

A close-up of his head.

This figure offers plenty of simple custom ideas. Ra's Al Ghul immediately comes to mind, and also the Mandarin. Or we can have some fun and bulk up characters who are normally not muscular.

Accessories. He comes with four extra pairs of hands, some of which are similar to those that came with Iron Fist from the Allfather series. There's a pair of fists, a pair of gripping hands, a pair of "claw" hands and a pair with straightened fingers with the thumb tucked in. He also comes with a pair of nunchucks. They are shaped the way as pictured. One straight and one with a right angle. The included BAF part is the torso of Demogoblin.

The nunchucks are rather "plasticky" in appearance. I think they look better than those with a string connecting the batons which we sometimes get. I like the sculpted dragon heads at the ends. Nice!

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, butterfly joints, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, calf swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. The articulation points have good range. He can do plenty of martial arts poses. The only thing is I would have liked if he was able to raise his leg higher and spread his legs wider so that he can do a better high kick. Due to the shape of his feet, he has some trouble balancing on one leg but it's doable.

Comparison shots.

Great figure! It's a really fun one to fiddle with. Thanks for viewing!

Oh and in case you're looking out for the next post it will be delayed unfortunately. Because Star Wars!

Great reviews, how width can he split?

I've been wondering why Hasbro has never yet to produce a GI Joe 6" line scale, Shang-Chi could be Quick Kick already. And they can also capitalize on great sculpts and tons of accessories.

@Craigjou - have added some pics above with regards to how wide he can split.

@Toyssuck - Now that you mention it, he could make a great Quick Kick! Hopefully I can track another one of him down without having to get a set.

Great review! This classic version of Shang Chi has been like 20yrs overdue. Will be getting at least 2 of him as I wanna make use of that buck for other Marvel martial artists like DD/IF . I would imagine when it's time for his live action MCU movie premiere in 21' that Hasbro will be doing a wave dedicated to Shang Chi & it would be awesome to get comic based figures of Razor Fist & Midnight as well as a huge sumo wrestler, he could be the BAF.. Also a Shang Chi with a sculpted on Gi or a flexible/removable one.
