Thor: Ragnarok Review

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I can't think of the last time I enjoyed a movie this much. This for me currently is the best superhero movie of the year. There was never a dull moment. It was fun, thoroughly entertaining and had a good dose of action. Just awesome!

It's going to be hard not to reveal any spoilers but here goes. When last we saw Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in Avengers: Age of Ultron he set off to investigate the Infinity Stones. The story picks up two years later. He learns that Hela (Cate Blanchett), the Goddess of Death would soon be free from her imprisonment and that her release would bring about Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard. Thor finds himself imprisoned on Sakaar, a junk planet where gladiatorial contest are held. He faces a race against time to prevent Raganarok. But in order to do that he must first face-off against his former ally and fellow Avenger in the Hulk.

Hemsworth I felt delivered his best performance as Thor out of all the movies he's appeared in so far. He looked very comfortable in this one and seemed to be having fun in the role. Thor is still the fierce warrior that we know but now with a sense of humour which I think suits the character. It makes him even more likeable.

Just like Thor, the Hulk too makes a return to the big screen after a spell out of action and he looks just as good, if not better than when we last saw him.  The CGI of him looked excellent, as with majority of the CGI in the movie. The Hulk has evolved somewhat and is now able to articulate. He and Thor play off each other very well. I really enjoyed their banter. What I enjoyed even more was their epic clash in the Sakaar arena. Their fight was a blast! The two powerhouses going at each other, pulling no punches. It's definitely the highlight of the movie for me.

We are introduced to several new characters, such as Hela, Skurge (Karl Urban), The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the absolutely hilarious Korg (Taika Waititi). I'm happy to say that each one gets fleshed out a bit and we do get some of their backstory. I'm not a fan of the Valkyrie armour but I do like Thompson's pained, tough, no-nonsense portrayal of the character.

Hela lives up to her name as the Goddess of Death. She is absolutely captivating whenever she's on screen and is truly menacing. She is a ruthless badass, demonstrating just how powerful she is early on.

Thor: Ragnarok is hands down the best of all the Thor movies. It's a superb popcorn flick. The visuals, sound and music are great. There's lots of laughs and plenty of action. We get to see Mjolnir in action from quite the repertoire of Thor's playbook which I'm glad they showed considering that it gets destroyed. Not a spoiler there. It was in the trailer. I also loved the scene when the Valkyries came flying in to confront Hela. Simply an awesome sight to see. Comic book fans may recognise someone familiar in that scene. Do stick around after the show as there are two end credit scenes.
