Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Ultra Magnus

Folks, meet Ultra Magnus.

Chapter 16 of the Tales of the Beast Hunters may be found on his intructions sheet. Click to enlarge.

Ultra Magnus is a retool of the Transformers Prime Robots in Disguise (RID) Voyager Optimus Prime. The most obvious new parts are the head, shoulders and chest piece. I like the chest piece. Though small, the design is reminiscence of his G1 appearance. The figure has a decent likeness to how he appeared in the cartoon. However the shade of blue is too light and he could use more paint at his mid section. The elbows and the sides of his forearms could use a touch of red too.

Accessories. Ultra Magnus comes with a jetpack, the Forge of Solus battle hammer and 2 missiles. The hammer and the missiles may be stored on the jetpack and carried in both robot and truck mode.

The jetpack is similar to Beast Hunters Optimus's.

You can peg the jetpack onto his forearm and have him use it as a shield.

The head of the Forge of Solus has a neat sculpt. It should be bigger in size though, and be painted in gold instead of silver.

The missiles are launched from his shoulders. The top part of his shoulders may be flipped down so he can aim them forwards.

There are tabs on the sides of his shoulders so you can attach the missiles there if you like. I feel the missiles are too long to be placed there though.

He's got good articulation. The head rotates, shoulders have ball joints, there's bicep swivel, elbow hinge, wrist hinge (up and down), ball hips, thigh swivel, knee hinge and ankle ball and hinge.

Comparison with the RID Ultra Magnus. I like the look of this Beast Hunters version but I prefer the colours of the RID one.

Comparison shots. I think he's of a good height. In the cartoon, the newly restored Optimus is even taller. The upcoming Ultimate Beast Hunters Optimus Prime should address that.

Ultra Magnus transforms into a truck. The image on the package shows it with smokestacks but they are not present on the toy. With the jetpack attached, it looks kind of like a tow truck.

It reminds me too much of Optimus without the jetpack attached.

Overall I prefer this Beast Hunters Ultra Magnus. It is more cartoon accurate and has better accessories. It's out in stores now so look out for him. Thanks for viewing!
