Marvel Legends Series Age of Apocalypse Deluxe Apocalypse

Apocalypse now!

I'm actually not keen on the Age of Apocalypse figures. That's cause I can't remember the story (think I read it once a long time ago) and I know I'm not going to display them. I did pick up a couple such as X-man and Morph as they have popped up in the main 616 universe. I may yet pick up the other figures if and when they go on sale.

So why did I get Apocalypse? I got it mainly for the heads to use on the BAF version. You'll see the head swaps in a bit but before that here's a quick look at this figure. It's basically the BAF figure with some changes. The changes include a new collar, new shoulder armour, new bracers and new boots. With the new boots he now has boot swivel which is great! The collar looks rather constricting. Kinda like a neck brace. There's hardly any room for him to turn his head. Can't blame them really as the shoulder armour take up quite a bit of space as well. The collar does not peg into his shoulders well and tends to pop out. The bracers are separate pieces. The top half of his upper torso is of a darker tone compared to the rest of his body. You might not be able to make out the difference with the lights reflecting. The plastic used is quite shiny.

The collar and shoulder armour are removable and we now have what I like to call savage Apocalypse! I quite like the look.

Accessories. He comes with an alternate head, an open left hand, a skull and his cape.

With the cape his look in now complete.

I like the look of his cape. It fits neatly and flows nicely from his shoulders. The cape actually pegs into the shoulder armour.

Both heads look great. I really like the default head. He looks evil and menacing. The teeth were sculpted and the inside of his mouth was painted. The alternate head looks kinda grumpy with his lips pursed up like that.

Now for some head swaps. The blue of these new heads are of a lighter tone. With lights on it you don't really see the difference.

The BAF head may be used on the AOA figure. The head sits lower though.

While we're at it might as well swap some more parts and see how they look.

A close-up of the skull. It looks good. I especially like the weathered wash. A pity that's its not bigger and has no peg hole. We can do some horror or fun stuff if we were able to put it on a body.

The claw attachment from the deluxe Archangel set may be used on the figure. You'll have to remove his bracers first.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, swivel hinge wrists, ab crunch, waist rotation, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, boot swivel and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down fine. Just that when looking down part of his head will be buried in his collar. Normal head rotation is restricted by the collar. To turn his head more he'll need to look up first and then turn. The shoulder armour can be raised a little to allow more arm articulation. He cannot raised his arms up fully. The bracers are thick and greatly restrict elbow articulation. See above and below for the difference in elbow range of motion.

Comparison shots.

Great figure! I quite like him. Thanks for viewing!

Cool figure. I wasn't going to purchase him but if I see him, I may reconsider. This was a great review.
